Hello,

I get this maybe once every week or so where as I am falling asleep I can't move or feel my body and I also can't breathe. It feels as if something sucked all the energy out of me. I can feel the numbness take over my body. It is very scary because you cannot take a breath while this happens.

It takes a lot of mental effort to come out of it (usually I can within 15 seconds), but I have to concentrate on waking myself up!!!! It's a very strange thing that I cannot explain. It's like I have to retake control of my brain!

While this happens I am fully awake and can see the room around me, just can't move.

I feel one day I might not be able to wake up before I suffocate. I just saw one doctor, she said it could just be anxiety, but I'm not buying it. Unfortunately, my health coverage doesn't start until July so I can't even go for a sleep study yet.

I've had this for about 5 months now. I was hoping others could shed some insight on this. Thank You much! -Adam

So, we all know that when the weather gets hot, our bodies perspire and get moist....including "down there."

What do you do to stay dry throughout the day long after the shower's been had?
You can only change your undies so many times/day and baby powder wears off.

And, YES, I'm serious! =)

About two weeks ago, I went running, and for the first time, got a bit of chest pain. It hurt to breathe deeply, and my breath felt like it was being somewhat smothered. The pain went away within 15-25 minutes after I stopped running. Also around that time, I started coughing- a mild, but persistant cough. And even now, I'm still coughing. It's worse in the mornings and at nighttime. And today, I was running a mile, and the chest pain came back. Is this something to worry about?

I am 21 years old, a dancer in professional training and reasonably healthy looking, but I seem to be having some problems lately. I've been prescribed birth control by a HORRIBLE gynecologist who I never want to see again and didn't let me ask any of the questions that I needed to. Now, I've made an appointment with a doctor (internal medicine) and I want to ask him about all the weird stuff that I've been noticing lately (which is kind of a lot since I haven't gone to a doctor for years), but I'm worried that he will get annoyed and just think that I am complaining. I don't want to be seen as a hypochondriac or a whiner, but shouldn't you tell your doctor everything? Especially if you work in a physically demanding profession? I've also had an eating disorder (EDNOS) for about seven years and this may or may not have something to do with my physical and/or mental issues. How much should I tell him?

I just got a permanent job in Canada working for the government, so for the first time in my life I have a health and dental plan. I got a card for the health plan and 2 big stickers for the dental. If I have to pay for prescriptions or something like that at the doctor's office, would I simply pay using my new card from now on, so I don't have to pay out of my pocket? How do the stickers for the dental plan work? Am I covered for eye check ups and glasses too?

As stated I am 20 and not on any medication. I love junk food but if I eat it w/in a couple hours of going to sleep, I wake up nauseous and it goes away when I eat something like fruit. This is good b/c I really should eat healthier but seems weird. This started 6 months ago. On the surface I look healthy and in shape, 5'0 & 97 lbs, but my exercise is walking campus from class to class. About two years ago I developed very low tolerance for caffeine, after being a coffee addict. Also, junk food used to serve as meals pretty often but now my body requires more healthy foods to feel good. Could my sudden intolerance be telling me something other than I shouldn't eat junk food? I.e. I'm lacking a nutrient, I have low or high something...?

My nephew had a minor motorcycle accident and while his injuries are not life threatening, he was on a blood thinner that has kept him in the critical intensive care unit since the tuesday after Mother's Day, with kindey failure, the heart enlarging and a blood clot in one of his lungs. Well he has very good health insurance and his mother is a retired RN. My nephew is in one of the major trauma hospitals in central NJ and is fighting for his life. Since he has been in the ICU almost all of the patients that were there since he arrived and some that came after him have died. Many of them (because this is an inner city facility) have no health insurance and no family members that can be at the hospital 24/7. I honestly feel that if my nephew didn't have a constant family presence and the fact that my sister-in-law is a RN, he would have been dead days ago and would not have received the attention he has. What is your opinion?
