Make sure you're not worrying about anything before you go to bed, if you have a lot on your mind it will keep you awake. I'd suggest writing a list of everything you need to do or are worried about so that you can empty your mind before you go to bed.
Try not to have any stimulants a few hours before you intend to sleep, such as coffee, cigarettes, soda, alcohol etc
You could try a cd to help induce sleep, I like the range that Meditainment produce, very calming and relaxing! You can find their products here:
http://www.meditainment.com/
Put it this way, I can never get to the end of the cd because I'm always asleep!
You could also try eating lettuce before bed (strange, I know, but it has a sedative effect!) a drink of warm milk can also help, as can sweet marjoram essential oil (put some on a tissue and place between your pillowcase and your pillow)
Happy snoozing!

1. Don't read, watch television, work, etc.. in bed. Reserve the bed for sleep. This helps establish a connection in your mind between the bed and sleep. (Does not apply to sex)
2. Don't nap during the day.
3. Have a regular schedule, both for going to bed and for getting up
4. Use an alarm clock, but the time should not be visible from the bed. Don't check the time when you can't get to sleep. You will end up obsessing on the time, worrying about how many hours it is until you have to get up.
There are many other behavioral rules like these, search using "sleep hygiene" and you can find more.
A good sleep aid would be
1. Diphenhydramine (Benadryl or Sominex)
2. Doxylamine (Original formula Unisom, there is a "new" formula that is same as #1.)

No caffeine after for at least 6-8 hours before bedtime, no exercise for 2-3 hours prior.
Avoid prolonged exposure to bright lights for about an hour beforehand, too. Regular lights are OK, but even a moderate light close to your face will cause problems - this includes a computer screen.
Establish a regular routine at night if possible. Quiet reading, TV, bath, whatever works for you is fine, as long as you can keep a routine most of the time.
I prefer a cool room to sleep in, but others have their own preferences. Find what makes you comfortable, and stick to it.

While on bed, do the following, a form of meditation.
1. Close your eyes
2. Close both the ears with index fingers, so that you do hear anything but breathing sound.
3. Take a deep breath.
4. While exhaling make sound like 'ummmmmm' or 'ommmm'
If you are lucky you might fall in to sleep while doing it.

my fiance and i just started juicing before bed. i think the recipe is cantalope, pears and an orange. juice it all and drink it down real fast. in the juicer book it's called the "calmer". i drink this and go to bed and i no longer toss and turn and i get a pretty good nights sleep. maybe it just coats your stomach to make you full or something? sometimes a real warm bath befor bed helps too.
