hi!!
my bfs mate has been in agony for about 2 months with a pain in his r side(sort of where you waist is). last night i asked him what it felt like if it was long and achey or short and sharp, to which he said it was achey and sharp. i told him it was most probably a kidney infection but should go to the docs to make sure so he can get the relevant drugs. am i right in what it could be or am i completley rong?

Yes, he needs to get medical help! If the pain is that bad, sounds like it could be serious. From experience, kidney infections usually cause pain in the back. He can try drinking lots of water or cranberry juice and pharmacist can recommend over-the-counter pills but I'd say a doc is the best answer if this has been going on fo 2 months. Tell him not to keep putting it off cause he's letting it get worse and causing more damage.

If it had something to do with the Kidneys, wouldn't it be to the waist and to the back? Could be a lot of other things ranging from a Hernia/Hydrocel to a bum stomach, he should see a doctor.

Yes it could be a Kidney infection but it could also be his gall bladder, especially if it's worse after he eats. I had that type of pain when my gall bladder messed up. Either way it needs to be checked out!

You rightfully show your concern...Or could be kidney stones...He has to go to the hospital...pay for the visit now, or pay much more for it later...
Telling him it might be a kidney infection prompts him to think "worse case scenario"... Good thinking

Yes, mam, it is always better to show to a either GP or Physician. You are right telling him to go to a doctor. without examining the patient one should never diagnose and suggest any medicine.
