General Health Care - February 2007

hey, i smoke about 5-10 cigarettes a day, lift and run. Does smoking affect how big you get at the gym? I KNOW, smoking cigarettes is bad. I want to know if it will hurt my muscle growth, etc. or affect it at all. thank you!

We all know that there's nothing that hurts a man more than that. This isn't sadistic or perverted....but I'm just curious to know if the same thing goes for women too, or if there's another spot on the female body that could cause that much pain.

Of course I wish I never picked that first cigarrette up, but I want to quit and have heard great things about hypnosis. Have any of you quit that way? The pills and patch didn't help me at all. Thanks.

I really want to get a few, meaningful tattoos, atleast meaningful to myself. However, someone told me today that I will never get a serious job offer as a surgeon, and will never be trusted or taken seriously by my patients if I have tattoos. Is this true? Should I not get the tattoos.

My sleep schedule is very wacky. I don't have children so that's not a worry but I wonder if I'm overdoing it, aging myself prematurely. I think my blood pressure has gone up too and I'm only 27! Any RN's or medical workers with input? How worth it is it?

I occasionally feel a slight discomforting pain in around the areas of my upper left arm, elbow, and shoulder when it's cold outside. It feels more like in the muscle or bones. When the weather is decent or warm, my entire left arm feels fine.

The day before yesterday I was pulling up tile with an electric chisel (similar to a jackhammer), and the day after I started having wrist pain all of the sudden. The chisel seems like the cause but I'm not sure to what extent. I'm not sure weather its a sprain, carpal tunnel, or a fracture (but seems unlikely) Its like a "pulling" sensation. Its not painful but defiantly uncomfortable, and only when I move or twist my wrist. Touching has no effect. There has also been no obvious swelling or color changes. I do use the computer a lot so I thought it might be carpal tunnel rather than a sprain. Any ideas on what this could be?

Hi i am having Sharp pains in my right side of the rib cage and whenever i cough or sneeze i like scream cuz its hurts soo much! When i press on it it feels as tho i was pushing on a bruise and its kills. What could this be? is it anything to be conerned about it really hurts is there anything to do to take some pain away? my 3 year old has terribly chapped lips, i have tried several different types or chapstick and nothing seem to help. the childs lips are almost a purple color from how bad they are, and i cannot get him to stop licking them.......any advice

It began about 5 weeks ago. I woke up to a sharp pain, what felt like to be below my heart, under my ribs. The pain was very sharp as I would try to inhale. It lasted throughout the day and then slowly became more of a dull throbbing feeling in one spot. Not really painful, but definitly there. Since, I have seen the DR. 3 times. First, she thought maybe it was Pluerisy, had me take 800mg of IB Profin 3 times/day. After a few weeks the throbbing seem to dissapear for a few days. I quit taking IB Profin. A few days later it came back. I personally didn't think I had the symptoms of Pluerisy. Went back for a cat scan. Came back good. My DR. seems stumped. She put me on meds for possible pinched nerve. So far, doesn't seem to be doing a whole lot for me. Pain now seems to be in my back a little and up in my back shoulder blade. My rib cage now seems to be just slightly sensitive to the touch as well. No other symptoms at all besides what I explained. Please help???
