Chances are, based on the way you have described it, you have simply strained a few intercostal muscles. These are the muscles that lie between your ribs. If you have strained recently, bent the wrong way or have just been coughing too much you can make them ache.
And when you cough you use those muscles to compress the chest to help force the air out of your lungs, hence, sharp pain when you cough. Seems to me that this is probably your issue. Assuming this is reasonably accurate about the only thing you can do is rest, take some cough medicine and over the counter anti-inflammatory medications.
I would not be too concerned about your lung, even if you had a bad pneumonia you would not feel that kind of pain and your chest would not be sore to the touch, except for the sore muscles from coughing.
I hope this helps.

More info? Some chest pains are nothing serious, others are extremely serious and require an immediate visit to the doctor or ER. How long as this been going on?
On the less serious end of the spectrum it could be that you've pulled a muscle. This can happen during exercise, because you bent in a weird way, or because you've been coughing a lot, among other reasons. If that's what it is it will go away in a few days.
If you've been coughing a lot and your cough seems related to the chest pain definitely see a doctor ASAP, especially if you are running a fever or have other severe cold-like symptoms. It could be pneumonia and that's nothing to fool around with.
If you've been in an accident or have fallen and the pain is extremely sharp, there's a chance you've fractured a rib. See a doctor.
If you have a history of lung problems and think this may be related to your lungs, see your doctor.
Until you see a physician you can take aspirin or ibuprofen but if this pain is causing you difficulty it is worth seeing someone who can really tell you what's up.

Muscles can have knots (trigger points) that make them tight which in turn put pressure on nerves and other things causing pain.
Molasses - a couple of swigs or Bananas 1 or 2 - both contain magnesium and potassium for muscles.
Try working with the principles taught in The Trigger Point Therapy Workbook by Davies.
I use a chiropractor and massage therapist with it

It may be you have a rib that slips out of place. I did for close to 2 years, until a chiropractor diagnosed it and slipped it back in. Get it checked out. In the meantime, Advil or Aleve should take the pain away temporarily. Suerte!!!!!!!!!!

right side rib cage is where your liver and gallbladder are...
I'd see a Dr and make it soon...sounds like liver trouble...could be hepititis, or some kind of infection...makes the liver swell or you have gall stones...
Only a Dr can tell for sure...
