If a person is facing away from me, so I am looking at their back, their right lung should be on my right and their heart apex should be pointing to my left.

On the postero-anterior chest X-ray, why does the right lung appear on my left and the apex of the heart point to my right?

Is the image being flipped horizontally???

And if this is the way they are done, why are they done this way?

Thanks
[I hope that I haven't made a stupid mistake in my explanation and that you all can understand my explanation!!!]

I had pnuemonia last week and am done with my antibiotics but am still coughing phlegm up. Yesterday I was coughing and now my right lung hurts. It's not like a pulled muscle, I had that last week. It's right on the side of my rib bone. What could this be? Should I call my dr?

Does anyone kow the life expectancy of someone in the late stages of cirrhosis?
My mom is very ill, she is a chronic alcoholic, and was diagnosed with cirrhosis many years ago.
I need to know if anyone has been through this and knows what I can expect.

She is jaundice, and in the past week has had high levels of amonia in her blood, also, she vomits all the time, can barely keep anything down.
Today she is having her stomach drained again, this will make the 4th time, fluid builds up in her uppper stomanch area, and it makes it very uncomforatable for her. He legs also are very swollen today (ankles) she cannot walk she is so week. She went from weighing 145 pounds to now about 98 in a matter of 3 months. I am afraid that it is too late. She has been admitted to the hospital so much that now the Hospitals now just say that the damage is done, they cannot help her. Last year she was in ICU for a month-please give me any opinions you may have.

My son spent 8 days in Children's w/ pneumonina last week. Doc wrote for outpatient follow-up CXR this week. I am reading the script and it says "(x) PA, L lat CXR." I know his docs were watching his RIGHT lung, however. Is the order asking for a LEFT sided pic though? Do I need to make sure to clarify? We've seen so many stupid medical mistakes in the past couple of weeks, I am now paranoid and questioning everything. Thank you!:)

I have been smoking Marlboro Lights for a while, but i have noticed a change in the packaging on the odd occasion, especially the silver foil on the inside, it usually has the word pull on the foil, but some packs have the marlboro sign on instead. I had the thought that they maybe conterfiet. Has anyone else noticed this?

I've moved here a year and 1/2 ago, like my apartment and my neighbors, and am both physically and financially unable to make another move. I have asthma which usually doesn't bother me but over the past month, my upper respiratory tract is sick. My lungs are filling up with second-hand smoke wafting into my apt. from the balcony and bedroom window directly beneath me. The hallways wreak with smoke and it hits me as soon as I step outside my apt. I was careful to be tactful when I took the problem to my neighbor who immediately became hostile and defensive. I kept my cool while she told me to move. It gets really hot with windows and doors closed, I can't afford to run the A/C all the time, and it isn't healthy either. It's not the answer for me. I've an appt. to see a pulmonary specialist beginning of June. What is the answer to this problem

I've been sick for almost 5 days. I've had a really hard cough, sore throat, runny nose and shortness of breath. I went to see my doctor 2 days ago and he said "it's a virus". So i bought this over the counter decongestant that he suggested called ENTEX LA, which has worked for me in the past, as i have asthma and i can't take cough syrup or my throat will close up. Well it's been another two days and i feel like it's getting worse. My doc told me to use my puffers if i was feeling like i couldn't breathe and it gives some temporary relief, but it doesn't last for long. I've been up all night, it's now almost 8am and i've used my ventelin puffer three times since 1am and my steroid puffer once. I still feel short of breath and my ribs are aching from all the coughing, but i don't want to wait 5 and a half hrs at the hospital so some nurse can stick a ventelin mask on my face and i have to call in the doctor to turn it off, because no one will come to check on me. I hate hospitals!
