I've been sick for almost 5 days. I've had a really hard cough, sore throat, runny nose and shortness of breath. I went to see my doctor 2 days ago and he said "it's a virus". So i bought this over the counter decongestant that he suggested called ENTEX LA, which has worked for me in the past, as i have asthma and i can't take cough syrup or my throat will close up. Well it's been another two days and i feel like it's getting worse. My doc told me to use my puffers if i was feeling like i couldn't breathe and it gives some temporary relief, but it doesn't last for long. I've been up all night, it's now almost 8am and i've used my ventelin puffer three times since 1am and my steroid puffer once. I still feel short of breath and my ribs are aching from all the coughing, but i don't want to wait 5 and a half hrs at the hospital so some nurse can stick a ventelin mask on my face and i have to call in the doctor to turn it off, because no one will come to check on me. I hate hospitals!

yes, go the hospital, i have just come accross very similar with someone, and dr told them just a virus. When she got at the hospital, she had chronic infection of the airways, which would not of got better without the correct tablets, and she also was asthmatic, and used an inhaler. We were only at outpatients about 1 hour. Within 24 hrs she had an improvement, so good luck

How about phone your regular doctor FIRST. Perhaps something administered via a nebulizer might be helpful to you. See if he has any recommendations for you that you could implement (perhaps call in a script) without necessitating an ER trip. If he is not able to be contacted on the weekends (the majority of physicians minimally have someone to cover for them/be on call when they can't be), at that point, you should probably consider a visit to the ER or to an urgent care facility.

Hang in there,

My doctor has a chart on the wall in her office and sometimes the cough can take up to over 2 weeks to go away. I know it's a pain in the ***, but being sick is never fun. I hope you feel better soon and I hope this link might help you.

Sounds nasty. You should call your doctor's office right away. Even though you won't get your doctor, the answering service can get a message to a doctor on call. They should call you back rather quickly and be able to tell you if you need to go to the hospital, or else recommend something else for you to take. Good luck!

I wouldn't trust in one doctor, if your doctor is no giving you a propper solution, I would look for another opinion in a medical center before go to the hospital, but start looking for it now
People use to go to hospitals when thay are really bad , that's what a insurance specialist advidced me

you should go and tell them that your having a astma attack and put you on the machine and give you meds to open up your lungs. Don't wait any longer. It's a serious matter

If you have asthma you are not meant to have colds because colds make your asthma worse. I suggest that you seek another opinion as you can die of asthma.
