On my mothers side of the family, ie, her mother, an aunt & uncle have all died with cancer. the types were lung, stomach, tumour.& it has got me thinking, i mean,

Does it run through families?
Is there any screening tests to check what the chances are of myself, from ever developing it.?

Any information will be much appreciated, thank you.

Proper nutrition and other more natural treatments can be used to treat a lot of problems rather than just using drugs so often. There is a lot of research showing that cancer thrives in an acidic body, and cannot survive in a normal, more alkaline state. I've heard of too many doctors that refuse to admit that natural cures really work. I can't understand why they would refuse something that works, something that really helps. Is there a way to improve our health system?

I've been dating my boyfriend for almost a year now and he has mild cerebral palsy. He gets these 'cold chills'. That's what he calls them, but he doesn't know what causes them. He gets them frequently. When he's woken up, when he is driving, and when he is not 'cold'. Just at random times. He won't go to a doctor to ask about them and told me that he's had them for a long time. I just want to know if maybe these could be small seizures? It's scary because if he gets them while he is driving he could lose control of the car, and I just don't want to see him get hurt. Is it normal for someone with CP?

I've seen 2 specialists one claims it to be a natural aging process (I don't think so!) and the other.....inflammed optic nerves.

I have appointments to see other medical specialists (scans, neuro's etc) within the next week...in the meantime, I would appreciate any professional opinions i.e can I relieve the symptoms in any way?

for the past 2 and a half weeks i have had pain in my left rib cage which is now radiating to by back, and it is painful to lift my left arm up. I went to the doctor and he did some x-rays, and now i have a CT scan and blood tests scheduled. I am wondering if anyone knows what this could be... i had a breast reduction on August 10th and have had no problems with pain or anything until now. My breasts are also somewhat sore. A few weeks ago i went to my surgeon because i had pain in my right breast and they said that it did not appear to be infected. My left side is very swollen, but has gone down somewhat, due to the fact that i was prescribed an anti-inflamatory. someone please help, all the answers i am finding online say that it could be some form of cancer... and web MDis no help, it just keeps saying a pulminary embolism, fibromyalgia... soo any help would be greatly appreciated!

My mother died on the 28th, but the autopsy results aren't in yet. However, I am pretty sure she died of cirrhosis of the liver, as she was a heavy drinker. I just want to know if she was in pain or not when she passed. Thank you.

PS: Please spare me the idiotic comments and ill talk of my mother.

All I really know is that it causes the body to develop faster than the mind, like it'll make you look 10 when you're 4 years old. I think they made a movie about it starring Robin Williams in the late 90's but I'm not sure.

Any help is really appreciated ^.^

Also, if anyone knows how to find out if you have it or not, that would be helpful too.

I went to a walkin clinic last week because I have backpain and I've had it for years. They did an ANA bloodtest and it came back abnormal. When I called them to find out where to go from there, she said that it was positive, but my RF factor was negative. I've ben trying to read up on this, but I don't really understand it. i go to the doctor in the morning, but I want a sort of heads up as to what I might hear. Rheumatoid arthritis has been present in every female in every generation on my maternal side.

Does anyone know the formula for calculation my GFR. I know That my dialysis unit Davita has a website called Davita.com and I can get on there and they have a built in GFR calculater but it only uses three factors. Age, race and creatinin level to calculate the GFR. This helps but I know that it is far from accurate. I have seen the formula before and there are seven or more factors needed. I have a usual GFR of 16% to 18 % GFR every month using the Davita calculater and I have to goto dialysis 2 times a week. I have been told that if I drop down under 15% that I will have to go three times a week. Lord knows that I do not want that. Believe it or not, but none of the Techs at the unit know the correct formula. I have had a docter do it for me before and when using the correct formula my GFR is 3 or 4 points higher. If you know the what I am talking about please give me the formula, and explain any hard points that I may need to know when calculatiog. Thank You

For the last 10 or so years, I've had a high sed rate. The doctor says that this indicates that your body is fighting something, but until other symptoms emerge, they cannot diagnose. I don't have other symptoms. Anyone else have a high sed rate, & if so, what is your cause?
