a good conditioner and a steel nit comb is the best way to deal with them, make sure you do all the familys' hair at the same time including your own. i try to do all ours every 3 days when the blighters come to call. but you need to keep at it for at least 2 weeks running as that is the time it takes for new eggs to hatch. hope you get rid, ps call the school too as they can send out notes to all the parents saying that theres a case at school. they wont say who has got them of course. but its always the ones who dont check their kids hair that are the culprits for letting it carry on. ps nits dont only go for long hair my little boy has his short and still gets them and the nits do like nice clean hair best. ps. are your kids still at primary school? believe me when i say that when they move up to secondary they never get them. how many older kids do you see touching heads at big school other than in a rugby match lol

The only way to get rid of headlice recurring is to eliminate every single nit. It is a time consuming process and the combs don't work very well because the nits are cemented to the hair shaft. It takes weeks of sitting in sunlight or very good light and pull the nits down the hair shaft and out. A shampoo every 7-10 days to kill any missed that may have hatched. It took me 3 and a half weeks to get rid of my daughter's lice a couple years ago. I spoke with the health board and all those remedies of conditioner, mayonnaise, hair gels, etc do not work. Lice like clean, hair and these so called home remedies do not work. I recommend that you keep your children's hair as short as what is comfortable because the longer the hair, the more work. I ended up cutting 6 inches off my daughter's hair which initially was down to the middle of her back. That made the process a little easier. For longer hair, put it up in pony tails and make sure the children don't share combs, hats, etc. I woud also voice your concern with the school. The problem with lice is that some parents do treatments while others do not which isn't fair to those who have to put up with getting the lice over and over again. Also wash all bedding and put pillows in the drier. These things live off the scalp for a couple days. Bag all stuffed animals in green bags for 2 weeks. This covers the whole life cycle of any newly hatched lice. Vacuum and do whatever you can to wash clothes etc. I know I did 40 loads of laundry in the middle of summer and had to pay the hydro. Lice is the biggest pain in the a** for schools. I don't think parents should be allowed to send their kids back to school right away just because they were shampooed only. They need stiffer rules about kids attending school while they have lice. Everyone pays the price for one person not doing what they are supposed to. It should start at the school and for those who can't afford the products, subsidy should be provided. I wish you luck. It seems you have it harder than I did because you have more than one child.
P.S. I shaved my head when my daughter had it because I had it from her and couldn't do my own head. Believe me. I wanted to shave hers too, but she was already traumatized and only 5 years old.

Lice are becoming more and more resilient to the lotions/shampoos, as soon as they create one that works the lice become immune!
My only real suggestion would be buying some tea tree oil adding a few drops to a bottle of conditioner(it works better then over the counter tea tree shampoos and conditioners) and combing the conditioner through their hair using a lice comb to get rid of all lice and eggs. Do this every other day for 2 weeks. Once they are clear get a water spray bottle add a little tea tree oil to some water and give them a spritz first thing just enough to coat the hair a little in oil before they go to school. Lice really don't like tea tree at all so it will act as a repellant. Good luck!

Apply lots of conditioner to the hair and use a nit comb to comb them out. This may take several days.
After that, use some tea tree shampoo, then rinse with a good amount of neat tea tree oil in some warm water - leave this on and don't rinse it off.
Getting her hair cut shorter may help. Nits seem to like little girls with long hair!

Re-infection is very common im afraid and head lice love clean hair.
Pyroderm shampoo can be used frequently to keep them under control, but for a severe infestation use Derbac M.

when you wash your kids hair put conditioner on and then comb the hair through with a head lice comb, do this 3-4 times a week, this will break the cycle of eggs hatching, unfortunately if there is one lazy cow of a mother at the school who is not treating her kids hair then the problem is not going to go away.

Along with the treatment you must also treat the clothing and bedlinnes. Every place she has been. also let the school know so they check the other kids and treat them as well.

weve had 4 kids, and they got infested every time they went to school... frans head was sop bad we kept her off for weeks...
then we discovered frontline. yes, its for dogs and cats.. but it kills head lice... instantly, and they dotn return... just in case we did our kids twice a year...
just cover their eyes and give em a spray... yes, its expensive, but we already had 4 dogs... and one bottle shoudfl last a couple of years, if not longer...
oh, and you can only get it from a vet... i heard it off jonathon ross on a saturday morning radio 2 show...

maybe they keep getting re-infested from other kids at school..bit embarrassing but speak to the school, as if they are sat next to some one there it's going to cause this problem.
I think that schools have to tell everyone to use lotions at the same time to stop it.
