Doesn't sound like the meds are working to me ............. for you to want to sleep 12 hours every night sounds to me like your diet is severely deficient in the multi B complex group of vitamins?? Vitamin B12 in particular ........ lack of vitamin B12 in your diet will cause symptoms such as insomnia and constipation, headaches and migraines, vomiting and nausea, fatigue and exhaustion, dizzy spells, inability to think clearly, irritability and moodiness, excessive sweating, depression and even chest pains and heart palpitations !!
Eat more foods rich in this vitamin ie: organ meats such as lambs fry and kidneys, skimmed milks, cheese, fish and eggs.
If you are vegetarian or lactose intolerant then it is really important for healthy immune, neural and digestive functioning that you take a really good quality multi B complex supplement including all the B's - B1, B2, B3, B5, B6 and B12 as they work best together.
Expect to pay around $30.00AUD for 125 tablets, but hey, what price your health.

Have you always needed this much sleep or is it a sudden thing? Have there been any changes in your medicine recently?
I don't know if you see anyone for depression but you might mention this. Maybe it is a kind of depression that you haven't experienced before.
OR maybe it is something to ask your doctor about. Do you best, eat right and get some exercise.
I've always needed more sleep that it seems most other people do and it can get frustrating. Hang in there and keep praying.

Changes in sleep patterns (both an increase and decrease in sleep time) can be symptoms of depression. Meds can affect sleep, especially when you first start taking them - but you often need to use meds for a few weeks before they reduce the depression (and you may have to try different kinds of meds).
Please make sure you keep in touch with your doctor and report any symptoms you experience to him or her.

Some of the anti-depressents cause drowsiness. Sometimes that particular side effect will go away or lessen after you've been on the meds awhile. Of course sleeping too much is one of the main signs of depression. I would ask your doctor if your meds should be changed. Tell him/her what is going on. Good luck!

8-9 hours should be enough! how do you find the time? im 17, and barely get 5 hours a night!? but anyways, it might be your meds...do you take them before sleeping? instead of sleeping that long, and loosing half your day, try napping...sleep 7-8 hours at night and when you get home sleep 30 min-1 hour! you will feel refreshed when you wake...just try it, it cant hurt?

Yes, 12 hours seems a little extreme. Try seeing a doctor.

Depending on what other symptoms you may have, you may have hypothyroidism (under activity of the thyroid gland). Among many, many other things, it cause severe fatigue, depression, hair loss, brain fog, weight gain etc. Go to your doctor, and get tested for it. It could be the root of your depression. It was mine.
