I've seen 2 specialists one claims it to be a natural aging process (I don't think so!) and the other.....inflammed optic nerves.

I have appointments to see other medical specialists (scans, neuro's etc) within the next week...in the meantime, I would appreciate any professional opinions i.e can I relieve the symptoms in any way?

You should definitely go see that neurologist. Depending on how old you are, there are multiple things that can cause sudden vision loss. Either way, I hope they've done a full ophthalmologic exam and at least an MRI.

Some possible causes -
Multiple sclerosis (have you had any other neurologic losses, numbness or weakness of arms or legs, difficulty speaking, etc.)
Devic's disease (Neuromyelitis optica)
Stroke
Optic neuritis
Retinal detachment
Acute macular degeneration

I had a detached retina. I can only describe it as looking through vaseline and unable to focus. I doubt it is this though because the opthamology department diagnosed it after a couple of hours. Although there was no apparent reason why I should have it.ie. a bang on the head., and I was 27years old at the time.

Have you had your resting blood sugar tested? Blurry vision is one of many signs of Type Two diabetes. Just a thought.
