I had two back surgeries in '04 (discectomy & then fusion) and am STILL on pain meds. I've been on everything from Oxycontin, Vicoden, Percocet, and now daily doses of 24-hour, time-released morphine. I am resolved to the fact that the pain will NEVER go away and I'll be "crippled" with it forever. I am not an addictive person and will not become dependent on the medications. I don't know what will happen to me in the future. Has anyone else had this experience?

What are the long-term effects that someone with cerebral ataxia (caused by an underdeveloped cerebellum) could expect to encounter? Conditions (general lack of balance and difficulty with some speech) currently do not seem to be changing for the better or worst, although patient thinks they are getting worse. Patient is approximately 30 years of age. Is a "normal" lifespan probable? Thanks!

I have stated taking Colpermin tablets, so hopefully they will soothe the symptoms. Does anyone have any really good suggestions that actually work for IBS - I am going travelling to new zealand soon and it is a VERY long flight - I really need something that works! do you think I should go and get a proper diagnosis from a doctor? Can someone please shed some light on the whol IBS thing for me, as no-one else I know has it!

I'm going to be travelling through Central America for an as-yet undetermined amount of time. My doctor has prescribed 20 weeks' worth of doxycycline.

My question is - if I end up being there for more than 20 weeks and can't get ahold of doxycycline, can I start taking Larium or Malarone etc?

In other words, can I just swap over from doxycycline?

For 17 years doctors have been picking apart my varied symptoms and only addressing those that can be masked through expensives medications - when all the time I have had an illness that actually encompasses all my symptoms and is exactly the illness I suggested about 15 years ago? Males doctors have mainly tried to look between my legs or send me to a psychiatrist for the answers. Now that I can kick them in the head with a real diagnosis- none of them want to answer why they didn't listen?
