How do you get kidney stones? IS it something genetic or can anyone get it?

Both, it was genetic for me along with not keeping myself hydrated enough in the summer months. I had my first at age twenty, usually had one or two a year. They have somewhat stopped now that I'm in my fifties. I was luck and only needed assistance with two kidney stones to pass them. I got mine from my grandfather. Good luck.

Kidney stones are the result of mineral salts in our body accumulating and binding to each other, instead of being flushed out of the body. It is thought that there is a genetic predisposition for our bodies to "save" salts instead of flushing the excess.

Any one can get kidney stones. They are a mineral build up. Keeping well hydrated with water helps prevent them. Excessive soda makes it worse.

i think it is a built up of something in the kidneys, like calcium. they hurt big time as someone said. a colleague's dad had them once and i was told his doctor advised him to do it the natural way. he was first asked to take castor oil. after that, he had to take a lot of fresh apples everyday and a couple of tablespoons of olive oil. then, the stones just went out in his urine. painfully, of course.

You can get them from being dehydrated. It is probably more prevelant in certain families. Drink lemonade and orange juice. Acid dissolves the stones.

I had them and they hurt like hell. They say too much calcium build up in your body may cause it.
