I had two back surgeries in '04 (discectomy & then fusion) and am STILL on pain meds. I've been on everything from Oxycontin, Vicoden, Percocet, and now daily doses of 24-hour, time-released morphine. I am resolved to the fact that the pain will NEVER go away and I'll be "crippled" with it forever. I am not an addictive person and will not become dependent on the medications. I don't know what will happen to me in the future. Has anyone else had this experience?

I have degenerated discs in the lumber region, and know what back pain can be.
I am overweight, which doesn't help the situation at all' and I have been, and am on all manner of pain relief.
For a long time I let it cripple Me.
I couldn't walk, I couldn't sit, or stand. or drive very far, as the pain was with Me constantly. Even whils't trying to sleep.
I tried walking, very short distances at first, and then more distances.
I walk around the block most days, and I have been using back muscle specific exercises. Most days I still have a lot of pain, but now I can function.
Once in a while I have a blowout, at which time I am back to being almost crippled, and suffer badly.
Hang in there and work with your body. Nobody knows your body like you do.
Try some light exercise, and small distance walks and try to go further as you feel better.
Everybody suffers pain differently, and I truly hope that this will be of help to you.
Good Luck.

I haven't had the experience yet, and after reading your question I think I have made my mind up not to.
I am so sorry that I can do nothing apart from offer you my sympathy.

I did see an interview with Jerry Lewis (the comedian) who has had an implant fitted which alters the way his nerves transmit the pain impulses from his spine to his brain. I don't know what it was, where to get one or anything else about it but if I ever find out, I'll look you back up and let you know...

Back pain is always difficult to treat. Surgery is not usually a good answer unless there is obvious compression of nerves or spinal cord.

If you've had the compression fixed and the pain is till there, look elsewhere for your source of pain...

?muscles
?ligaments
?bony arthritis
?brain

hello,
It may possible you have nerve damage and that causes pain. I'm afraid you will be in pain from now on. All you can do is find a combination of meds that alliviate the pain so it's managable. My husband is in the same boat.
Best of luck
God bless
