My friend has hep c. Why do some people clear the virus with treatment and live normal lives but others need liver transplants? is it because they do not respond to treatment? was found out 30+ years after infection and damage was done? or another reason? please help.

My sister has been sick for over a week or so, and I just started to become all congested and have a sore throat. I hate it! Can anyone tell me how to get rid of my sore throat, and clear up my sinuses? (I'm mainly concerned with my throat right now, but I would appreciate help with both!)

I once read that cats spread a brain virus and it is estimated that up to 2/3 of the world's population may be infected. The article was from USA Today (I think). Anyone have any additional information about the truth behind this? How do you know if you are infected, and what can you do about it?

How many times can you get chicken pox?
I have had them twice before a few years apart
and i think i have them again
the only reason im not sure if it is chicken pox is that, if it is, it would be the third time of having them
and i was always told that if you had them once you would not have them again
and when i got them the second time, i was told thats unusual to have them again
They are just like chicken pox
Have i got chicken pox for a third time
or is it something else?

This is a real long shot I know, but getting desperate.
For the last few years I have been unwell to a degree, starting relatively mildly with a bit of a achy side, had blood taken & my ALT enzymes were high, but nothing else was found despite visiting a liver specialist & having scans. More recently I have been generally unwell, lots of flu like symptoms, stiff achy joints, sore stiff neck, waking in the night sweating heavily.
Had my worst ever night last night, awake all night, sweating, headachy, even had palpatations. Have had lots of blood taken, been screened for some immune disorders after a very nasty anaphylactic shock a few months back but all they find is low red cell count (sometimes)
Occured to me that 12 years back I had a couple of lost days while in the Gambia, put it down to a reaction to the malaria drugs but clutching at straws here, could this be a malaria of some kind knocking my immune system & making me feel so ill, so long after possible infection?

My grandfather has shingles. He's not sure if it is contagious or not, but he is coming over to exchange Christmas presents. I, being a "germaphob", and FREAKING OUT because I can't get sick, especially now. My mom says I won't get it if I stay in my room while he's here. But when I come out, he could have touched something and I can get the disease, right? I've never had chicken pox, and a HAVE had the vaccination. (10 years ago I had it) Can I get shingles?

It seems that each year, I get a sinus infection at least once, usually around the holidays (like right now). I usually go to the doctor, get an antibiotic, take all of it and the infection is cured. A few years ago I was once given amoxicillin by a doctor to get rid of a sinus infection and I think it worked just fine. Now, I have another sinus infection and a different doctor prescribed amoxicillin again. My question is whether or not this is a good idea because of the phenomenon of bacterial resistance. I reminded my doctor that I was once on amoxicillin and raised this concern but she dismissed it. So should I be worried about the amoxicillin not working on my sinus infection this time around? I just took my first dose an hour ago. Any insight would be appreciated.

So, I felt like I was getting ill for about a week now, and finally three days ago, the "flu" hit me like a pile of bricks. I had a temperature of 102, and I've had almost a constant fever since. My nose is runny, and my head feels like it's going to implode, or something. And my throat...is bleeding, and red, and I keep coughing up bloody stuff from my throat. Yeah, gross, I know. It's worse when you have to experience it.

I went to see a doctor and was given Tamiflu, for what my mom says is actually a virus...she was a nurse for 27 years, so I don't know who to trust...

Anyway, if my mom is right, then I recieved the wrong medication.

But still...I just want to get better. I want to sleep, and I want to sing again. What more can I do to ensure a speedy recovery?

Thanks.
