I came down with the stomach flu, (norwalk virus) last Fri at 5 am, it really hit me hard. It's Tues already and I still feel like I can't eat much and get tired very fast. How long will this last and is there anything I can do to snap out of it? I am very fit and in shape and never get sick, so this hit hard...any suggestions?

Oh geez, I feel bad for you. I had it last Friday at 2am. I woke up with the shivers and my stomach just a churning away. I never went back to bed until 10am and stayed in bed until 6pm when I nibbled on some saltine crackers.

Fortunately, my virus lasted only that Friday. I took an over-the-counter medication called Zicam. It is expensive and it says it only works to shorten the cold and it does just that. I have not gotten a cold this year because each time I feel it coming on, I take my Zicam and it leaves the next morning.

If you are continually throwing up, take Emetrol. It is medicine for upset stomachs, but is ALOT stronger than Bismuth. If you still feel sick after taking it, keep taking it until you feel better.

Hope this helps and get well soon!

There is no such thing as a stomach flu. If you have the Norwalk virus it is typically transmitted through food borne illness. You'll need to see a Dr. and speak with your local enviromental health inspector. You may need to boost your electrolytes with pedialyte and stay away from foods that have heavy fats or high citric acid it can trigger more diarrhea and vomiting. You are probably weak from being dehydrated. Eat small amounts more frequently to get your caloric intake up. Good luck

don't get dehydrated. Drink lots of water and juice then move up to jello and soft foods. It will take about a week to recover from a serious flu so be patient. Even after that time some foods won't seem appealing. Start off slow, your body is telling you to rest.
