penicilin doesn't help the flu; taking too much penicilin builds a resistance in your body. Let the flu takes its course. Drink plenty of fluids and get plenty of rest.

Penicillin, as has already been stated, is an antibiotic that treats bacterial infections. The flu is viral, and will not be affected by it.
However, because the flu lowers your immune system, your body is more likely to develop a bacterial infection, like pneumonia or bronchitis. It is for this reason that doctors will sometimes prescribe antibiotics like penicillin when you have the flu.

No. Antibiotics only help bacterial infections. They do NOTHING for viruses.
Doctors over-prescribe antibiotics, because when a patient goes to the doctor and says I'm sick, they would rather say here, take this antibiotic than say go home and come back in 3 days if you are not better and I will consider giving you antibiotics then.
I'm sure US patients would say WHAT!!! You CROOK!!! You just want my money!!!
But in fact that is what a good doctor SHOULD say.
Instead they give you antibiotics, have created SUPERBUGS that are resistant to them, and which cause untold numbers of death for seniors, children, and immuno-suppressed people as a result.
You should avoid antibiotics. Nine times out of ten they are not needed, especially for ear infections.
I was stupid and listened to my doctor for my firstborn child and she was always on anitibotics. She developed allergies and asthma as a result.
I never give my kids anitibotics. I bring them in, the doc says here is a prescription in case but wait 2-3 days if not better than fill it...usually in 2-3 days they are much better and on the mend so I don't bother.
Antibiotics kill both the good and the bad bacteria...so in the long run they damage your immune system.
Avoid at all costs. Your body will actually get stronger from fighting off illness on it's own and over time you will be much healthier.
It's actually good for children to be sick when they are small as they will be much healthier later in life...if you shelter them and they are not exposed to anything you will find they will be much more sicker in later years and seem to get more colds than other kids. They've actually proven that.
However, if you have been on all kinds of antibiotics as a kid, you will likely tend to be sick anyway...that is my opinion based on what I've seen of people who have pumped thier kids full of stuff.

Influenza is a viral respiratory infection causing fever, coryza, cough, headache, and malaise. Mortality is possible during epidemics, particularly among high-risk patients (eg, those who are institutionalized, at the extremes of age, have cardiopulmonary insufficiency, or are in late pregnancy). Diagnosis is usually clinical and depends on local epidemiologic patterns. High-risk patients, their caregivers and household contacts, health care practitioners, and all children aged 6 to 24 mo should receive annual influenza vaccination. Antiviral treatments include the neuraminidase inhibitors zanamivir and oseltamivir, which are effective for both influenza A and B, and amantadine and rimantadine, which are effective only against influenza A.
Penicillin (sometimes abbreviated PCN) refers to a group of β-lactam antibiotics used in the treatment of bacterial infections caused by susceptible, usually Gram-positive, organisms.
Please see the web pages for more details on Influenza and Penicillin.

No is the answer Penicillin will not help a cold or flu. As a qualified herbalist I recommend a 2-3 cups of catnip tea, sweetened with a tsp of honey.
The catnip is an anti-viral and will help you sweat the infection out, without raising your body's temperature to do it.

It is important to remember that antibiotics work only against infections caused by bacteria. Examples of bacterial agents include staph, strep, e. coli, mycobacterium, salmonella, shigella, clostridium, arthrobacter, tyhpus, (1)
They do NOT work against any infections caused by viruses. Viruses cause colds, the flu, and most coughs and sore throats.
Infact, one reason thre are now so manay antibiotic resistant forms of bacteria is that people have ben over taking antibiotics for the wrong reasons. (2)

no. its a virus. there arent any antibiotics that solves them per se. they can only be treated with a strong immune system. so penicillin doesnt really help with flu. eating a lot does. giving your body enough vitamins will. etc.

NO. Penicillin is a antibiotic not an antiviral. It will only help if you have an infection that is not penicillin resistant.
