Does anyone of you are required to take antibiotics before each dentist appointment? I have a minor heart murmur, and my physician signed off the release form as it is okay for me to take them. I didn't see her personally at the time (I had no appoitment because she was busy and the receptionist helped me to get the release form filled.

I just saw a cardiologist for the first time and she laughed about the antibiotics. She says that there is no reason for me to take them. She also said that I had nothing and she just dismissed me because according to her, I am too young (I am 26) to have any serious heart condition. I didn't like her too much because she didn't seem to be serious for many reasons. According to her, my blood pressure was fine (she was so fast to check it), although when the nurse checked my blood pressure 10 min ago, it was 110/86.

My dentist insists that I would use antibiotics every single time I come in, although I would rather not do so, it it's unncessary.

I got my blood pressure checked a little less than a year ago and it was slightly above average, so I didn't worry about it. Recently it seems I've been sweating more than usual and my face has been getting really red. Also, after exercising, I get a little nauseous, even if the work outs not to intense. Could these be symptoms of high blood pressure?

Hello,
My wife age 24 was just diagnosed yesterday with having 2 pulminary embolisms in her lower right lobes. with a small lung infarction. 1 I cant sleep I worry so much about her. She seemed to be doing better today but had a spike in her ST? tonight. which caused the docors to rush in thinking she may be having a heart attack but then it went away quickly, with them saying sorry for the scare. I guess my question is that normal? Tommorrow will be her third day in the hospital how long is too long, should I be worried if she is in over the lets say six day mark? The only thing they could find is her contraceptive as a reason for this.Is this common at her age? What is her quality of life after this, is it something that goes away. I guess it's really going to stink if we always have this in the back of our heads that at anytime she can have a PE. any help would be great!

Has anyone ever heard of a Myxoma? I had open-heart surgery a little over two years ago to remove a golf-ball size tumor, aka Myxoma, from the upper left atrium of my heart. The doc suspected the growth of the tumor probably started in my mid-teens, and it was removed when I was 28. I did research online, and several sites stated that this type tumor was usually found in autopsy reports! Anyway, the tumor was completely occluding the atrium stated above, so the blood flow literally almost stopped at times, which in turn caused me to almost black out. Just wanted to know if anyone else has heard of this type tumor, and if so, please let me know your experience or what you've heard about Myxomas. Thanks!

Is it a normal thing to feel your heart beating while resting?
the thing is that I can feel my heart beat when I'm not doing any kind of physical activity, like right now I can feel it beating against my chest, and it gets worst if I go running or something, it beats really fast, so fast that if I sit still my body shakes to the rhythm of it.... is that bad?

Most of my life my b.p. has been normal, really perfect. Twice now it has been high, once a few years ago from a medication interaction that lowered my sodium dangerously, and my b.p kept going up, and the past month or so its been high.

Generally I was only getting it checked when in the Dr.s office for other things, like an ear infection or my annual exams. In the past two months, there have been three visits, and all three were high. This past time, they actually kept me for a couple of hours to keep taking it, gave me something to lower it, and sent me home with instructions to take it twice a day for a week. Its now 162/110, after just hanging out with my dogs on a sunny afternoon in the backyard. I thought it may be another medication thing, since I have been taking Allegra or Zyrtec the past few months for allergies and ear problems, but I haven't taken them for two days and its going up. Any ideas?

Can a bottom number of above 90 cause some dizziness and weird headaches sporadically, not constant.

I have gotten my blood pressure down to that from walking and watching sodium, thanks :)

Hello,

I just had a fingerstick test done at a health fair, total chol=250. Results were ready in 5 minutes. Non-fasting.

This doesn't seem accurate, as my cholesterol was 179 (real lab test) last time I had my bloodwork done in April 2007. When I had this done in April I had already lost 30 pounds due to changing my diet and eating healthy.

This is now October and I have lost 20 more pounds (total 50lbs since January 2007) and I have still been eating very healthy, high fiber, low saturated fat diet etc.

I was shocked to see 250! Are these fingerstick tests accurate? And even if not accurate, is it possible that it is off by 70-80 points?

Thanks

He is 16 years old and I was wondering if this could be dangerous. His doctor told me to give him a multiple vitamin. Is that enough or is he just not telling me the other possible causes?
