Mitral stenosis (narrowing of the valve between the left atrium and left ventricle; also called bicuspid valve because it has two cusps) treatment has come a long way in the last 30-40 years.

The preferred teatment in the past was replacement of the valve with either a pig's valve or an artificial one.

There is a less drastic procedure used these days (ballooning) which is what you had, where the valve is widened to allow normal blood flow through it.

I would seek the opinion of your cardiothoracic surgeon before embarking upon strenuous exercise such as "workout" as you put it. However, milder forms such as walking or gentle cycling on flat ground (NOT up hills) may be acceptable.

Depends how long ago he/she had the surgery and what their cardiac function is like now post-operatively. It would be best to consult with his cardiologist or cardiac surgeon. But assuming everything went fine and cardiac function has improved, there are no other cadiac abnormalities and it has been months since the surgery, I would say yes.

You need to call triage or the unit that you had the surgery and ask before you do any exercising. When you left the hospital, the nurse should have let you know what you can/can't do. If you aren't sure, call and ask.

After ballooning MV , best thing is that you walk as long as you can with ease. There is no point in putting un-necessary stress on your myocardium, and heart in particular.
Hope answered your question.
