Below is an entire topic page about lowering cholesterol. Rather than trying to list everything here I thought I would give you a lot of good material to read or watch at your leisure. If his cholesterol is really bad you probably need to take him to the doctor to get on a cholesterol lowering medication, or to get some good recommendations on how to lower his cholesterol through diet changes. Hopefully with a change in his diet he could go off of the medication in time. I do strongly suggest taking him to a doctor and reading some of this material to educate both of yourselves on good ways to lower his cholesterol. Good luck with helping your boyfriend lower his cholesterol.

There are 3 things that determine your cholesterol levels: Diet, Exercise, and Heredity. You can make changes in your diet and exercise to lower your lipid levels. If you are not exercising, start walking 4-5xweek 20-30min and increase from there. Restrict any cow flesh to once a week the size of a deck of cards. There are several medicines for elevated lipid levels but try diet and exercise first as all the meds have lots of side effects. Components of your cholesterol level or lipid profile are the LDL (bad) and the HDL (good). Try to have a HDL Level of at least 60 as that is heart protective. Your LDL should be less than 100 or less than 70 if you have heart disease. Good Luck!

Well, Im only 18, so I dont really have to worry about cholesterol yet hehe, but my grandparents have bad cholesterol and high blood pressure, and he takes Ginkobaloba (Im not sure if thats how you spell it), and exercise. Cut back on the sweets and really fatty foods to. If nothing seems to work, Id look into some prescription meds.

Good Morning!
My father in law has high cholesterol as well and he takes garlic pills. They are otc (over the counter) and inexpensive, they have been helping him. The second time he had to go for a blood draw to check it, the levels were less than the first time they were checked. Well that is my suggestion...
Good Luck!
