I am helping my 22 year old daughter do some research on glucose testing machines. Today she was diagnosed with glucose intolerance (fasting glucose level 118). She is also waiting for the results from a blood test for Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS). Her doctor is 99% sure the test will come back positive for PCOS based on other symptoms she is experiencing. My daughter needs to get a glucose testing machine. We know there are several on the market and we would like to know people's real experiences with different makes and models. Ease of use, portablility, and as less pain as possible are of particular interest to my daughter. If you are using a glucose testing machine we would welcome your opinions and any advice you can pass on. Thank you for serious answers on this serious subject.

Where do you insulin dependent diabetics take your shots? Which area of the body do you prefer? I use my thighs or stomach. I don't use my stomach much anymore because of scar tissue build-up resulting in slow absorption.

How many shots a day to you take? I take 4-6.

Do you take your shots in public or go hide somewhere? I personally don't care who sees me take mine. I don't run off to a bathroom or anything.

Do you use syringes, pens or pumps? I use the insulin pen (Lantus and Humalog).

Just a brief survey. :)

Have a nice day!

my 13 month old son had a severe infection five weeks ago. i took him back to the drs because diabetes runs in my family he drinks 16oz of milk a day but also over a pint of juice/water. He never seems to be full up always looking for food but since he was in hospital although he is eating 2 dinners he is not really gaining weight he gets very tired quickly and cranky. All my dr said was keep an eye on him and bring him back in a week if you are still worried

A friend of mine recently was told he is diebetic. He is not on any special medication, except for one which I am not sure of what it is, but not Insulin. His doc told him to stay on a strict diet. Tody he came down with a severe flue like symptons, pains in his stomach and diarea. Pain in his legs (both) in which he can barely stand. He said he never felt the way he is now. It first started with a mild pain in his head, which is , i know, cause by his blood sugar. Then slowly he started feeling worse and worse, and by the time he got home he felt so fatigue and normaly he is a very active person. He does eat alot of sugar, but has stoped to just a minimum. Can he be going through an Insulin shock. He does not have any bone ache which usually accompanies a stomach virus. He just feels very , very weak. What should he do? I do not think it is anything seriouse for he just visited his doctor today. Please answer ASAP/ Thank you, Jersygirl622001
