should they go to a podiatrist; can they get a better pedicure?

diabetics often suffer prom neuropathy, so they can't feel their feet so well- especially older diabetics....Of course, their circulation is impaired, so even a blister or scratch on the foot can go unnoticed, become infected, and eventually lead to loss of toes or even a whole foot or part of the leg.

diabetics need to be sure to moisturize their feet, and check their skin daily. I would say that a podiatrist is overkill unless there's some kind of major issure- like nail digging into skin...I would be sure to tell the pedicurist that you're diabetic so she if even more careful to avoid scratching or scraping your feet.

Diabetics have to be careful with their feet, and if they are havign problems or complications with their feet, I would first reccommend a visit to their family doctor, or the endocrinologist, and then let this healthcare provider decide whether the patient should go to a podiatrist or not. My mother, who is diabetic, goes to a podiatrist and she has a lot of feet problems. I am diabetic and not seeing a podiatrist and no feet trouble as of this time typing this to you.

only go to a podiatrist. do not even go to a nail place and get anything done. with diabetes you are so much more suseptible to infection. a woman in dallas actually got a fungal infection from one and it went systemic and she died. thats a HORRIBLE way to die. go to podiatrist and with him or her about what you want. painting your nails should be a problem but getting the nails cut and filed should be a job specifically reserved for a professional. be sure to inspect your feet everyday for any signs of infection or inbedded object.
