last summer in august, i was 3 times exposed to cane burning on maui. i became very ill: coughing, blisters in nose that spread to throat, vocal chords, dripped down to stomach. then became nauseous and weak all the time, then bed ridden and heart problems, then blacking out when i went out to get food and then uncontrolled retching that was only stopped via IVs. could DDE and dioxin poisoning from the burnt pesticides used in the cane fields cause full-on diabetes as i eventually went into a diabetic coma? they burn cane 277 days a year, and i am still coughing ... and now using insulin for the diabetes.

I came down with Diabetes a year ago this august. It still isn't under control after being on 4 different meds and changing diet with exercise. I'm fed up with 2 foms of insuline because i hate needles and i hate having to swallow 2 differnt kinds of pills because i feel i'm poisoning myself and have always hated taking pills for any reason. Any one out there know of any alternative i can try?

I have lost 2 jobs b/c of being diabetic, and now since working thru a temp agency, I was offered a permanent posistion. After telling personel that I was a diabetic they decided to hold off on hiring me b/c of attendance (all dr excused). But I was offered the job, and the attendance thing was never brought up.

I am also on oral medication I am considering an insulin pump but have never used, or even seen one. If you are using an insulin pump, please tell me something about it. Do you like it? Thank You:

My dad and stepmom are coming to visit for a few days and they both have diabetes. Some of the days they will be home while we are at work, and I would like to have some simple breakfast foods on hand for them. Normally I would have fruit, bagels, pastries, english muffins - simple things, since they are on vacation. But I realize that all of those are high in carbs. What kind of things should I have on hand for them for breakfast and lunch? I don't want them to have to spend all day cooking - I'd like to have things on hand that they can just eat.

Is anyone here using the Atkins diet to treat their diabetes?

I've lost weight with this before, it's a decient diet and got rid of a lot of my problems, but I went off of it. I am now prediabetic and thinking about going back to it, but not sure. My dr. said she wanted me on a diabetic lowcarb diet, but she didn't give me anymore information than that. She also aggreed and supported me when I was on Atkins.

I've thought about other diets as well. I'll probably call her the next time she's in her office and ask, but was checking to see if anyone else has done well with Atkins for controling diabetes?

I need to loose weight, dr.'s orders.
