Depression doesn't directly come from having diabetes, but it is more likely to have depression with a chronic disease like diabetes and having to eat differently and deal with the disease.

yes, diabetics are more prone to depression.the chronicity of the disease and the liabilty to develop the compilications either acute as hypoglycaemia or chronic as heart diseases make the diabetics feel bad and they think they are not like the others, they are weak and can not do as the other do.these will make them more prone to depression, studies showed that 30% of diabetics may suffer from depression.it can be notice more on young diabetics on insulin therapy or old diabetics.it is important for the physicians to screen thier patients if they suffered from depression and try to help them.studies showed that degree of control is much better in those without depression than diabetics with depression.

It's a common symptom. After all, it's incurable, and you have to change your lifestyle for the rest of your life to at least maintain, and you're facing horrible complications (blindness, neuropathy, loss of limbs, heart problems, etc.) if you don't take care of yourself. That's enough to depress anybody. But if you exercise, watch your diet, and follow your doctor's orders, it's not so bad. The exercise tends to remove some of the depression naturally, anyway.

i have have type one (21years) now and have struggled with depression. i find that when my bloods are not in control i feel more depressed. to combat this i have begun to educate myself more and definelty try to eat better, exercise regularly and test four times a day, I suggest carb counting and watching your calorie intake. it is always a struggle having a chronic disease but you can maintain a healthy life with little or no depression..
