I never miss work except to go to dcotor appt.s. I have diabetes and high blood pressure and my doctors keep an eye on me by having me come in for blood work, or medictaion adjustments, and things of that nature. I also happen to be taking a family vacation, for 7 days, in the middle of this month. (I had the vacay planned before I even started this job, which was about 4 months ago.) I have an appt today with a nutritionest, now work told me I can't take any more time off than I already have because people will "notice" and start to "complain." So I had to cancel my appt. I don't think this is fair. It's not like I am taking the time off to goof around, and it's not as if I have been calling in sick. Isn't there any legal rights I have in regards to this? I have my review coming up soon and I know they are going to bring up that I have too many doctor appts (I have about 3 a month) I want to be able to give them an educated response. I make the apps for at lunch or the end of the day.

In 1995 I suffered from acute pancreatitis. Surgeons removed 90% of my pancreas and this left me Type 2 diabetic. I was doing fine on pills until this past december my Endocrinologist decided to put me on Humulin R(about 15 units before meals) and and later on added Lantus(about 55 units 2x day) Insulins. In addition I've eaten healthier but I've gained about 20lbs. I really hate this and I want to get off insulin but doctors tell me that i had been using the pills (glyburide/metformin < and other variants of all these before that> and Actos) for too long and its not healthy for my liver. I'd prefer to not be on insulin dependency. I know there are stem cell studies and other research going on. But is there anything else I should be looking into ? Is insulin safe? The ingredients are horrific!
Has anyone had success with other methods???
I live in Arizona I'm a 44 year old male.
Thanks for your help.

I've been unable to keep weight on, regardless of eating square meals. I usually feel nauseous 24/7, and I have period of intense binge-like hunger for sugar. My legs ache, and I'm very sensitive to temperature change. I have had some very low blood sugar readings (about 40-60 mg/DL) only 3 hours after eating, I usually don't get highs (I did have one 126 mg/DL fasting reading). I can't tolerate heat, it makes me feel like I'm going to pass out. I'm having a GTT tomorrow, but I wanted to hear your thoughts for those of you who went through the pre-diagnosis suffering.

My husband is 37 years old today and has had type 1 diabetes since he was 19. He cannot control his glucose levels very well and his health is deteriorating. We have 3 children and I would love for him to try something that might prolong his life. I heard they have had great success with these transplants. I need more info.

I'm asking because my boyfriend is recently diagnosed with Diabetes. The past two months, with all the Metformin, Avandia, Lantus, Novalog, needles, gauze, alcohol, meter strips, etc. We are struggling. His health insurance only provides $1200 gross towards prescriptions PER YEAR. We are very quickly coming up on that $1200 and it hasn't even been 6 months. I'm curious to know, are we doing something wrong? Why can't we afford this treatment? It seems like a good many Americans have Diabetes, how does everyone else afford the many prescriptions? We're freaking out, because we don't have the money for rent, gas, food, etc. We feel like the Diabetes treatment has to come first, but all these co-pays for specialists and prescriptions has drained our wallets, we can't buy food, nevermind entertainment. How does everyone else afford this?! What can we do?

My blood sugar level is 569. It's going to take many hours to bring this down at home. Think the hospital might be able to bring it down quicker? Thanks in advance!

I am 23 and started to get frequent yeast infections about 1 or 2 years ago. My doc asks me every time I see her if diabetes runs in the family, and I tell her no. She doesn't seem too concerned after that. I am on the pill which I've heard can cause yeast problems in some women, and at that time I was eating a lot of sugar which I've heard can cause infections. When I cut down on sugar I don't notice the problem as often or at all. I'm not obese. I just quit smoking. I'm active and nobody in my family has it. Should I still get tested for it anyway?
