I am surprised that your doctor have not already recommended a diet if needed, since a big part of the type 2 diabetics improves loosing weight.
Watch out, you can not follow just any slimming programs, but one designed for diabetics. It is very dangerous to play with the disease, on the other hand, life quality improved notoriously for diabetic people under strict medical supervision and the patients full compliance to the treatment.
The only advice I can give you so far is to walk regularly, every single day, for at least half an hour. This is a mild exercise that will help you to improve your physical condition among other factors.
In case of even mild overweight, it is highly advised to loose weight, never with any magic program, but with a balanced diet safe for people that are diabetics type 2.
Please be careful and take care. Your future depends on that.
Sincerely,
Fro

Can type-2 diabetics go for slimming programmes?

I was 371 pounds when I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. My A1C was 7.8, my blood glucose test was 273. I was given Actos first, then Metformin which helped my body overcome my insulin resistance to get my A1C down to 6.5 in three months. I then began a diet and exercise routine to lose 175 pounds and this allowed me to go off of medication and maintain an A1C of 5.4 or below without medication for almost 2 years. I try to keep my carbs to no more than 60 grams per meal and exercise 1-2 hours after eating to keep my blood glucose below 140.

As long as you have your meter and snacks and are in general good health there is no reason you can't. Most diabetics are encouraged to exercise my son is Type 1 and plays sports and just test before and after also he takes snacks before and during for the drop he will have when he exercises. We also check 8 hours later because that is when the exercise changes his blood sugar. Never do anything without talking to doctor he may have suggestions for you like the extra snacks and such.
