My husband just got diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. The thing is that he is incarcerated. I want to try to learn all I can. WHat advise can I give him. He gets a special diet and is on meds for it. I'm Not sure which one. What is dangerous high and what is normal and low. He first had 365 then it went down to 295. I know that's still high.

My friend has type 2 diabetes and only tests himself when he feels bad. He goes to his parents house and borrows his mom's kit. I want to buy him one that he can carry with him and is easy to use;doesn't need alot of maintainance.

I don't know much about diabetes and the internet sites don't really answer my question: Is there anyway I can test for diabetes without going to the doctor?

Yesterday, my glucose was 35 mg/dl midday (a couple hours after eating). I've never had a reading quite that low before. Then today, I had a level of 140 mg/ld about one hour after breakfast (which was oatmeal). I've never had a reading quite that high before.

As a non-diabetic, should I be concerned? What could be going on?

Thanks.

Is it just a general practitioner, or is there a specific name for it? A diabete-ist? If someone can help me, I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

But pasta is one of the things I gave up when diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. Is there any way I can have some macaroni and cheese? I'm taking metformin, glipizide and actos. I restrict my meals to 45 grams of carbs per meal. Can I eat a big bowl and walk for an hour. Should I give in to temptation or just turn off the tv?
