I just had a skin analysis done showing a high count of 949 for porphyrins... internet research is telling me that the fact that I take beta glucans 1,3 may contrbute to the high number. How do I find out what a "safe" number is for porphyrins and can the high count be due solely to taking the beta glucans supplements?

I just started a new high impact, high energy cardiovascular training program and my muscles are very sore. I know this is normal and that the pain will subside over the next few days but what type of over the counter medications can I take to at least dull the pain a little bit?

Have you ever been to see a chiropractor? do you think they helped with your problem? I have a pain in my shoulder and i think its related to a muscle spasm in my back but my doctor reckons chiropractors can do more harm than good. Can anyone give me an estimate of what i might pay to get treatment.

I take 5-htp, St. John's Wort, gingko biloba, acidophilus, a b-complex, and a multivitamin throughout each day, not all at the same time. Is there anything I should be aware of? Harmful effects, interactions, or anything else I should know? Thanks in advance for your help!

When I was in the Philippines, I thought I would visit Chinatown to try some Chinese herbal remedies for insomnia, mild depression, and mood swings. The doctor gave me some An Shen, two tablets a day before going to bed. They were great but I've now run out.

I went to visit a Chinese herbal doctor back in the UK to ask if she could give me some more AnShen. She said it was bad to take it long term and instead prescribed some dried sawdust and rat droppings (ok, maybe it wasn't, but it looked like it). They didn't work and were hellishly expensive anyway. Plus I had to take 24 tablets 3 times a day, which again didn't work.

What are the problems with taking Anshen long term? Can I get hold of any in the UK?

I've not been able to sleep properly for the last week or so and have been getting incredibly distressed about it. I tried Nytol for two nights and felt so ill that I refuse to use it again! Does anyone know if or what homeopathic remedies would help? I've been trying lavendar oil (which I don't really like!), hot milk, warm baths, less sugar and caffiene with limited effect. It gets to the point where my eyes are sore (from both not sleeping and crying because I can't get to sleep!) and I just feel terrible. So if any of you good people have any advice on herbal, natural or alternative method, please, please, please let me know!

If cryogenics really worked, would you have your body frozen if you had a fatal disease or knew you had a short time left in order to be awakened when there was a cure or 'fountain of youth' so to speak?

The ones I'm thinking about are:

1. Acupuncture (back issues)
2. Chinese Herbs (multiple reasons)
3. Natural Foods
4. Yoga (Flexibility)
5. Hypnosis (For Relaxation and Cleansing my Mind)

I was wondering if you could comment on these.

My parents attest to Chinese herbs helping on minor health issues and acupuncture helping their back. Also, my mom attests to natural food giving her more energy. I had a friend try yoga and says it gives her more flexibility, though it hurts a lot. I have actually once been hypnotized into a very light trance and found it soothing, but was told that if I was hypnotized into a deep trance, I would experience greater relaxation and I could work on cleansing my mind.
