I've not been able to sleep properly for the last week or so and have been getting incredibly distressed about it. I tried Nytol for two nights and felt so ill that I refuse to use it again! Does anyone know if or what homeopathic remedies would help? I've been trying lavendar oil (which I don't really like!), hot milk, warm baths, less sugar and caffiene with limited effect. It gets to the point where my eyes are sore (from both not sleeping and crying because I can't get to sleep!) and I just feel terrible. So if any of you good people have any advice on herbal, natural or alternative method, please, please, please let me know!

There are NO homopathetic remedies which will help you sleep.

Once you are tired enough, you can sleep.

I'm sorry but I have had sleep problems all my life.

Perhaps you need to see a doctor because you do sound extremely stressed.

You do not say whether this is a UK question. I have to respond to the other suggestion, that you take melatonin. Americans eat melatonin like sweeties but it is banned throughout Europe for a very good reason. Once you start taking melatonin your brain stops making seratonin and you end up no better off.

Please see a doctor, maybe he will prescribe something to help you sleep.

Nytol is just an antihistamine, you should not use it.

Homeopathy is very effective for all kinds of ailments, but youd be best going to a qualified practitioner as remedys are quite individual to each person, and the homeopath would go into your lifestyle, eating habits etc to find the best remedy for you.Have you tried drinking camomile tea?its very soothing and relaxing, as is valerian. Also try some deep breathing excersises.good luck

My wife gets really stressed out with her job and can't switch off finding it hard to sleep at night. She started taking a herbal remedy called Valerian (2000mg). It works for her.

Melatonin 3mg EVERY night. It's available in any pharmacy, supermarket, health food store. It's not something that you take on an "as needed" basis, you need to take it every night to work best. The prescription drug Rozerem is a melatonin-type drug and is obviously related to melatonin.

Hope this helps.
