I just started a new high impact, high energy cardiovascular training program and my muscles are very sore. I know this is normal and that the pain will subside over the next few days but what type of over the counter medications can I take to at least dull the pain a little bit?

Black Cohosh is a relaxing nervine, sedative, anti-inflammatory, anti-spasmodic. It is a natural source of salicylic acid, which has an aspirin-like effect. It is a mild, safe analgesic. Take 0.4 to 2 ml of tincture every 3 to 4 hours as needed. Or 40 to 200 mg of dried root. Contraindicated in pregnancy and lactation (but then so is your exercise routine :-D).

Externally, apply tincture of Arnica as a lotion, or a cream containing Arnica extract.

I recommend Arnica 30 homeopathic medicine. Safe and effective for sore muscles.

Tiger Balm - I swear by it!!

Also soaking in a warm/hot bath of Epsom salts helps as well.

Your best bet is Advil (Ibuprofen). Ibuprofen is an anti-inflammatory and will help reduce the pain.

Naproxen, Motrin, Tylenol, Ibuprofen, any sort of anti-inflammatory like that.
