My dad (71 yrs old) was just told that his kidneys are functioning at 65%. How serious is this and would he have to go on dialysis eventually? He's been seriously ill within the past 10 months. It started with a stroke, then they installed a pace maker because of heart problems (IHSS), then his medicine caused internal bleeding (lost 9 units of blood), then he had emergency gall bladder surgery and has numerous gout attacks because of all the stress. Now we get this news. What are the options for this?

Or is my Dentist taking me for some money here. I'd like to know? thanks everyone.

I've heard that your body can go into "starvation mode" when dieting and not eating enough. I understand this for anarexics, but there is talk at work that one can go into "starvation mode" when only consuming say 1,000 cal. a day. Is this true? Any websites with more info. on "starvation mode" would be greatly appreciated.

Is it common for a shin splint pain to be on the inside of the leg a few inches above the ankle. I have what feels to be a knot next to my shin. It is extremely painful to touch and is now causing problems with walking and hurting into the knee.

I drank about 1-1/2 litre of fruit juice and now I keep urinating frequently [about every 10-15 minutes]. i'm fully hydrated because my urine is water. but the problem is, i have really bad pain in my lower back when i feel the need to urinate [i think its my kidneys, or could be]. i've learnt about water intoxication and although what i drank wasn't water, could it still kill me? please help. also how can i deal with this ??

I am a 52 yr old female with "managed" high blood pressure.
I do administrative work, lots of computer stuff. Not enough exercise, but not overweight at all.
Is it time to call the G.P. for an appt?
What does this symptom indicate?

I need to be able to "pick up the pace a little bit" and run as far as I can for as long as I can. I know that you only get better at jogging by actually doing it, but....any other pointers?

Over the past few months his behavior has changed. He cries for several hours during the night, and looses a lot of sleep. I ask him why he's crying and he says he doesnt know. He's been a lot more agressive lately too. My husband and I rarely argue, and if we do we do it quietly behind closed doors. We both work full time, and it's sometimes hard to spend as much time with him as we should. He also complains at night about not feeling well, and he wants medicine. His behavior is taking a toll on all three of us. HELP....

I have been having alot of problems with my period. Well lately it doesn't seem like a period at all. Lately it just seems like I'm gushing blood. This is a serious question and nothing to joke about. I have been changing my tampon like once every hour or every two hours. I am afraid that I may be losing to much blood. And it seems like there is some clotting as well. My stomach is cramping bad too. Has anyone else ever experienced something like this? Do you think that that is too much blood to lose?

I have a job that includes a LOT of rejection, it's a market research job. I also have a history of depression. I'm finding that the rejection is really getting to me. However, I have 2 little kids, and my husband's income doesn't QUITE cover everything that we need, and we don't live richly, and we don't have anything we can cut out. This job has hours that make it able for me to work so that I don't have to have daycare, but it also means that I don't get to see my WONDERFUL husband much at all :( What do I do? Do I suck it up and just keep working, or do I quit for my own mental health?

I went to stay with my child who is 14 and lives in another state. My ex-husband moved due to job reasons and she was staying with his mother. I was only able to stay for 3 weeks.

Now, I see that my child is not doing well in school and I feel like its all my fault. I feel like my life is not worth living and that I should die.

What should I do about these feelings? I can't see any good in life at all and just feel terrible about myself. Its guilt mixed up with depression. I try to pray and leave it in God's hands.

What else can I do?

My daughter who is 2 next month has very dry cracked skin on her checks, she has some mild eczema on her body that doesn't require hydrocortizone, but it is the only thing that makes any difference with her face. I am wary about using it and only do about twice a week (i use e45 cream a few times each day), although i have been told this is ok by my GP. She is teething at the moment which i think is making it worse, and it is also worse in the winter because of the heating/cold weather. What is your opinion on this?
