and why you choose to be a vegetarian? I am a vegetarian simply because I adore animals. I stopped eating non veg foods since 1984. My wife and children eat nonveg food but I have no problems.
How about you??

Even though I enjoy the taste of meat, over the years I'm becoming more conscious of what I'm doing with the fact that it's better for the environment to eat a vegetarian diet(and becoming more concerned about animals being killed as well. No I'm no danged PETA hippy), but would like to start off slowly and not miss out on any nutrients. What would be a first good step to take?
And which foods can I eat to keep my protein and iron levels up?

So I am a vegan. I try to avoid everything that contains meat, dairy, seafood, etc. but most of the time I get someone that is upset about the fact that I am a vegan and challenges me with their ignorant question of "If you don't eat living things than why do you eat plants, vegetable, fruit, etc" How do I reply to this?

. . . will "strict" vegetarians and vegans be able to contribute anything to anyone? If so, what do you think that will be?

Because God wants you to eat meat or he wouldn't have made animals so plentiful and tasty. I mean, do YOU know any republican evangelical vegetarians?

I am trying to get rid of my love handles and build up my behind. When I stand and look at myself in the mirror, I just see this gut pooched out with a flat butt.

He names them and keeps them at his yard where his children play with them, then they go to the abtour where they are slaughtered and then he makes a range of recipes with the meat.

I personally think that this behaviour is barbaric and shows an act of inhumanity. I have no problem with breading animals for food if that is what you must do getting to know them as friends, hand raising them, getting them to trust then eating them is just incredible. His children play with them get to know their personalities and then eat them. Barbaric. Whats you oppinion?

Also if you wish to report me to Yahoo please do but I have broken no guidelines, I have simply asked what people think in a vegetarian/vegan forum. I have not posted this question in cooking and I am asking people what they think. Am I the only one who thinks this way. I am not peddling PETA but I think that hand raising baby animals and letting them live with the family and then eating them is inhumane. Was lambs now pigs.

Here is the situation, my sister who is a vegetarian recently watched the tv show "How Its Made." And in the particular episode they showed the production of Jello gelatin. The thing is Jello is partly made up of ground up and powered cow bones. So I told her that she hasnt really been a vegetarian because she eats Jello. Am I right on this?

I started a Vegetarian diet like 5 days ago[[animal rights]], and my parents are cooking my [ex]favorite food CHICKEN and all kinds of REALLY GOOD meat dinners, as if that wasnt bad enough Christmas is coming up and my family is big on Christmas dinners... THE WORKS. I need some good alternatives that are just as delicious excluding the animal cruelty. Because i cannot bring myself to eat an animal because of what happens to them in thier lifes, but still that doesnt mean i dont think meat is good, it just saddens me. What do i do? Also how can i get my family to stop calling me a tree-hugger?

I'm a vegetarian(been one for 7 years) but I've never tried tofu. I'm thinking that it might be a good thing to add to my diet, so I would love to have some good recipes for it. Preferably something fairly simple though, as I am one of the worst cooks ever haha.

I understand that vegans don't believe in the killing of animals for food. What I don't understand is why they are against using animals for anything; even when they are not killed. Such as for dairy products and honey; cows and bees are not slaughtered for those products so why are they against it?

Some of the more strict vegans seem to be against pets and see and eye dogs, as well as police sniff dogs. I noticed a loophole that vegans use calling the animals they own as companions rather then pets.

"According to the American Institute for Cancer Research (AICR), vegetables, fruits, whole grains, and beans should make up two-thirds or more of the meal -- like they have in rural China for centuries. Animal foods should make up no more than one-third"

Do you find as a flexitarian vegan or vegetarian that you meat consumption is "no more than one-third" of your diet?
