How do you properly store fresh ginger? I am currently storing it in the produce drawer of my fridge, uncovered. It seems to dry out and get mold on it very quickly. Thanks.

I am 19 yrs. and I live at my parents house. Three months ago I decided to stop eating meat and its byproducts, my sister who is 13yrs. old never really liked meat and she eats from my soy products too and doens't eat meat, eggs or milk. Our parentsare going crazy about it. They have very primitive ideas like.. "If you don't eat meat..you're not gonna be strong enough" .."if you stop eating meat you're gonna collapse one of these days!!"...."I am going to take you to a psychologist!!!" I am tired..I am tired of this situation!!! How do I make them understand???? I've tried giving them books..magazzines..articles..but they say "oh it's all propaganda to sell their green products!!" What can I do? they look at me like if I was a bug in the family!! or like if I'm betraying them!!! I eat healthy and I buy my own food...how to stop it? how do I make them understand????

I really need some advice. Please help. I really don't want to eat animal products any more because I found out that they torture those animals as if they were nothing but dirt. I'm 13 and I saw a commerical about how awful animals were treated. I told my mom that I wanted to become a vegan and she said that I still all the vitamins and nutrients from meat because I'm still growing.

What is the best way to store veggies in the fridge? Is it best to seal lettuce or cucumbers in a zip lock bag, or allow the veggies to just sit in the drawer in the fridge?

Tofu and turkey burgers are out. I'm tired of seafood also. Not turning veggie but just looking to cut down. Pickles, carrots and cooked cheeses give me something to "bite" into. Any other suggestions for a "beefeater" like me?.

I have gone to a mostly raw vegan diet, but I do miss my shellfish. Since mollusks dont have faces, would they be considered vegan?

It's a religious thing. Any vegetarians out there with first hand advice?

I'm interested in suggestions for simple ways to make a nice, vegetarian dish using two portobello mushrooms. In the past, I've marinated them in soy, scallions, and ginger; then grilled 'em and served them with basmati rice. Other times, I've grilled them and put them on a nice roll with melted cheese.

Uncomplicated ideas would be appreciated. I'm not a very confident cook; I'm better with baking.

Thanks...

I'm just curious about what religion my fellow vegetarians are. So what's you're religion? Does it have any influence over your vegetarianism? Or vice-versa? Also, what kind of vegetarian are you? I'm curious if certain religions are more likely to have more percentages of a certain type of vegetarian than another (for example, ovo-lacto vegetarian, ovo vegetarian, lacto vegetarian, pseudo-vegetarian (eats chicken, fish, etc., but not beef and pork), part-time vegetarian, vegan, etc.

I'll start:
My religion is Deism. My religion plays a huge part on my ethics and morality, and my vegetarianism comes from my ethics and moraltiy. So my religion has an indierct relationship to my vegetarianism. I'm lacto-ovo vegetarian, because with eggs and milk, animals are not killed like they are for meat.

Have you ever find a terrorist to be a vegetarian? Perhaps no.
The terrorists are very cruel persons. But they are misguided too. Most of them may not be having their own family and children.
They are also drawn to extremism. Although they realise to have fallen pray to wrong hands but once in the line they can not come out of the cluches. They also know their life is short but they feel helpless.
But spread of vegetarianism and moral values can save the world from disasters, natural and man made.
The non-veg food is "Tamsik" whereas vegetarian food is "Satvik"
Medical science also says that vegetarian food is good for body, mind and soul.
It could be very tough to convert the whole world to be vegetarians but nothing is impossible. It may take hundreds/thousands years from now but to save the mankind itself from extinction it a must.
It may look like a folly for a majority lot but it is to happen one day or the other. No religion in the world teaches to kill animals.

I'm going to try and start eating veggies with every meal, but I don't have time to run to the grocery every other day to get fresh veggies. Are the bags of frozen broccoli and whatnot as good for you as the fresh?
