I have never made my own Christmas dinner before and this year is my first year for my family. My husband's family is coming to visit us and I think as of now I will be making:

Spiral Ham
Green Bean Casserole
Corn Pudding
Mashed Potatoes
Sweet potato Casserole
Cranberry sauce (hopefully home made)
Pumpkin cheesecake

any other suggestions? What did you make for your first one? Does mine sound ok?

I am looking at making up some sandwiches and freezing them but unsure what i can freeze and can't freeze, I have looked around on the web and seen some ideas, I know you can freeze cheese sandwiches, but some people say about doing boiled eggs and mayo. but some also say that you cannot freeze boiled eggs or mayonaise as the mayonaise seperates. I also know you cannot freeze salad stuff and some veg either. People have also suggested freezing cooked meats but I was under the presumption that you cannot do this as it can cause food poisoning? Has anyone tried freezing sandwiches and if so what recipies have you used?

Suddenly, one day, I just couldn't stand the sight, smell and taste of meat. I don't know what triggered it or why, and it was never a moral issue as I used to eat meat on average twice or three times a week.

It's worse when it's chicken and fish and I can't even watch people enjoying eating a carcas, something that once was living. I even had a dream about being revolted by a chicken being eaten. I can't even be in a butcher's shop or cook for the family with meat, as it makes me quite physically ill.

I wonder what brought this on?

ok i admit i was brought up a little spoilt and my mum always cooked for me then my ex always liked to cook so ive only started to cook recently with my bf of 6 months. i love to bake cos thats structured and easy but im struggling with cooking and its really getting me down. im such a perfectionist and i hate that all the new stuff im trying out doesnt come out perfect first or second time round! i tried making a big breakfast for my bf on sunday and the fried eggs burnt to the pan, the mushrooms were not cooked...etc. i tried making a pasta bake and that was crap..i feel sorry for my bf as he has to endure this all! was it like this for you when you first started to cook or is it just me being a big failure in this? any tips? thanks. :-(

My Mother cooked last night, so I took my a plate of roast chicken, green beans and mashed potatos for lunch this morning and OH MY GOD. It wasn't like she slaved over it for a long time, but mmmm, it was just so good and I felt all warm and fuzzy. I was sad when it was gone. lol

Why don't you ever feel like that I don't feel like that when I go to restaurants -- even really nice, down-home ones with great service?

The people who cook their are actually professionals who probably know tons more than Mom about making great food.

My neighbor, who has promised me he would convert to veganism by the end of the month, brushed his angora bunnies last night I noticed. I often spy on him to make sure he is transitioning properly. I asked this morning what he is doing brushing his bunnies, he informed he is going to knit little sweaters for his little puppies he just bought from a breeder!

I am in shock, how can someone be so immoral? I calmly explained to him that moral vegans do not use animal products of any kind and that it is immoral to brush his bunny and use the hair ( I am having trouble with him understanding animal products) and also that it is immoral to buy puppies from a breeder.

Should I plan an intervention with my animal rights buddies, I Am afraid this lewd behavior will keep him from being a moral vegan.

I am planning what I call a "pampering party" where I and all the ladies that are going to be in the wedding get together to do girly stuff. Well I am having it on a Sunday afternoon around 3 (just a way to get all of the BM's to know each ther) and well since it will be late enough in the afternoon that they will have all eaten lunch I decided to serve dainty finger desserts (you know stuff you don't have to dive into with a fork and plate, since hands will be polished, faces masked...ect.). Looking on the internet for ideas hasn't proven to be easy...any good ideas for small finger pies, cakes, cookies, tarts, frozen treats? (think outside the box of muffins and cookies...think sophisticated and dainty) recipes for them would be great too!

When you bake and store cookies, you can put an apple or a piece of bread in with them to make them softer or crunchier. Which is which?

Also, I put crunchy cookies made with Crisco in the same storage container as soft cookies made with margarine (sometimes I use butter). The crunchy Crisco cookies got soft and the soft margarine cookies got crunchy. Any clues as to why?

It has to be a "hot" dish for some reason. Any easy overnight crockpot ideas or something like that. I drive an hour to work so I would rather it be something I don't have to get up at 3 a.m. to cook. Just something that is good for a Christmas party and easy to make with not a lot of ingredients.
