The way it went that I quit eating cows was similar, I had a well done steak on my plate that I was really wanting. The first bite tasted good, but as I kept going it was making me sick to my stomach. The way it looked, I just kept thinking that I was eating flesh, and the smell was making me even sicker. I only ate about a quarter of it before I couldn't take it anymore, I haven't touched cow meat since. And when I go to the grocery store to buy meat for my fiance' it makes me feel sick to look at all the dead animal flesh in there. Maybe you just suddenly became aware that you were eating flesh of a living being. I cannot stand the smell of cows or pigs cooking to this day, it make me physically ill. I don't think there is anything wrong with you.
I agree with the poster above me!

The alcohol poisoning theory has some merit, I have to admit. You are literally sick of meat.
As I got older, my body started having trouble digesting meat, and one day I decided I was truly disgusted with it, so I went vegetarian and then vegan (long story there). I've moved beyond the stage of being disgusted by people eating meat, and when I see someone eating it, I let it drift into and out of my awareness. It's something like, oh, they're eating meat. Yuck. Glad I have my lovely vegetarian food here.
As for what brought this on, you may have had a sudden epiphany or your body is rebelling against meat. You seem to be at the newbie veg stage where the very idea of meat sickens you. If you stay veg, you will probably eventually get to the place where you woudln't touch meat with a barge pole, but you'll be able to stand having dinner with someone eating the stuff.

Despite what some of the other answerer's are suggesting, there is nothing wrong with you.
You don't like meat, big deal... just don't eat it.
Are you happy with the way things are? Do you like not eating meat? Then why do you care.
The only problem I can see you having is with other people, not with yourself. For example, someone is eating meat in front of you, it disgusts you to the point that you have to get up and leave. It may become an problem socially, but you don't have mental issues.
Ignore the idiots that tell you there's something wrong with you. (Especially the idiots that used this as an opportunity to preach to you about "protein deficiency" and whatever else is associated with being a vegetarian)

You DO NOT need to see a doctor...meat is NOT vital for human life...and man does not seem like much of a natural hunter (especially if you compare him to a lion). Having a strong "repulsion" to a food probably is mental, to a certain extent....but no one would recommend that you go to the doctor (or a psychologist) because you couldn't stand the sight, smell, or taste of cabbage (or even liver for that matter).
It seems like something just triggered an awareness in you...suddenly realize what it is that you are eating. For a lot of us, it can be hard to make the connection between that "mooing" animal and what comes in a styrofoam wrapper at the grocery store. We all know where the meat comes from...but it often takes an event (or a series of them) for us to truly realize what we are biting into....some of us turn vegetarian/vegan, others try to ignore the connection, and some don't mind at all. We all just operate differently.
The fresh seafood at the grocery store started to freak me out a couple of years ago...I think it was the fact that you can see whole animals for sale (poor lil fish). Then, what pushed me over the edge to becoming a vegetarian was when I was making chicken salad for the family....it was that shredded chicken that comes in the can...well this batch had a couple of veins in it! (sorry for sharing that...it really is disgusting...but that is what made me realize I cant eat this stuff).
So, don't worry about any of the insensitive people on here...you can easily be a happy, healthy, vegetarian!

If it just happened all of a sudden one day and you don't know why, it's a mental issue. Nothing that needs therapy though unless you think it does.
Samantha---it's not the meat part they need to see a Dr. about, it's the fact that it happened all of a sudden one day and they don't know why. That's not normal. Think before you cheerlead.
Kostar---what you're talking about is a "moral" issue and the asker says it's not a "moral" issue so they aren't going through what you went through. Reading is nothing without comprehension.

If it was sudden and for no reason that you can think of, definately talk to a doctor and have some tests done.
something similar happened to a relative of mine before he was diagnosed with Diabetes.
I'm not saying you need meat to survive, but I would reccommend ruling out a medical reason.

What you're describing is what many people who are vegetarian have gone through. It happened to me when I was working at Subway many years ago. The realization of what meat ACTUALLY IS just kind of kicked in.
Most people who eat meat are living in denial. They don't think about what meat actually is. Many people get through their whole lives in denial. I have to wonder if it's built into us as human being to not think about things to the point of not believing them (and this goes beyond just meat eating).
Some people can't keep denying their whole lives and they actually think for themselves...... I wouldn't be worried about it, I would be proud if I were you.
