Pappy Van Winkle's 20 yr old.
Family Reserve is often cited as the best example of American style bourbon whiskey. Here's a review:

"Watch out, folks, here comes Pappy Van Winkle and his whiskey to knock the holy crap out of your taste buds! Despite being a whoppin' 107 proof, this bourbon is complex, smooth, and rewarding to the very end. The copper color alone offers the first challenge to a novice bourbon drinker as it signals that this ain't gonna be no sissy drink! Caramel and spice notes as the first drops roll over the toungue then evolve into a slow burn (in that good way) as it warms you up inside. Delicious.

Have fun testing as many as possible. I like Ancient Age. It has a wonderful taste and it's not expensive.
Bourbon has a truly American heritage. Do a search for it and enjoy the research.

Woodford Reserve is good.
For an every day bourbon Jim Beam works just fine.

small batch bourbons are better than the mass-produced stuff...try Bookers, Knob Creek or Basil Hayden. Knob Creek is, in my opinion, the better of the 3.

Hard to beat Jim Beam. That nasty-tasting Jack Daniels is only the crude attempt to hide the puke taste with a charred barrel.
