I bought one of those chinese sharpening stones online (the wok shop). It feels a little like pumice or sandpaper to the touch. I also have one of those steels. I tried sharpening a knife with the stone and the steel and I think I might have ruined the knife. What I did was rub the edge of the knife against the edge of the stone on both sides at a 20 degree angle (at least I was trying to). Then I did that thing with the steel that the chefs on tv do. I looked at my knife and it was all scratched up and rough. Do I do something wrong or is that how you sharpen knives?

My mom has a dozen egg whites left over from something she was cooking, and I wanted to use them to make meringue cookies, but I only took one cup out of the dozen..can anyone tell me or show me a website that tells how many egg whites is equal to one cup?

I saw Good Eats episode where Mr. Brown sticks fish into some hot oil and pops it in the oven. He called it oil blanching. Isn't this the same exact thing as just deep frying the fish but maybe at lower temperatures?

Saturday is my twenty-first birthday, and I'm in need of some recipes for appetizers, main course, dessert, cake, etc.

I was thinking the following would be a real crowd pleaser:

Alcoholic beverage: Sangria
Non-alcoholic beverage: Punch
Appetizers: Nachos with black bean salsa dip, chips.
Main course: Homemade pizza.
Dessert(s): Tiramisu layer cake and classic tiramisu.

im turning 14 this year. march 20 and now going to have a party! im invinting about 30people. I have a trampoline, basketball hoop, lots of room inside&outside. what should we do???please help. im freaking out i know everything will be fine but i just dont want people to get bored.
