I would say most people can drink Tennessee whiskey straight easier because it is not "peated" like Scotch.
For whiskey drinkers though I would say the Scotch is easier.

Personally I prefer Scotch. I think Irish whisky has the broadest appeal, less rough than Tennessee, but not peated like Scotch.
Really it is a taste issue, and there's no way to tell, short of a poll.

All depends on your taste. I personally can drink either scotch or bourbon straight, but some cannot drink scotch at all.

Most people are thrown by the taste of scotch, and either like it or hate it. It's very distinctive.
Whereas, bourbon is easier to drink if you are a novice drinker. And no matter whether it comes from Tennessee or Canada, it all tastes similar.

Some people compare the taste of scotch to burlap and others say that bourbon tastes like cough syrup. You'll have to try them for yourself.

One last thing, though, if you can get past the first shot of scotch without throwing up, then the others are very smooth. But the bourbon has the same burn no matter how many you have.

Both are an acquired taste. I believe that you will acquire the taste to drink tennessee whiskey before you develop the palate for scotch. So drink the bourbon to start - Buffalo Trace on the rocks is pretty close to as good as alcohol gets.

Personnaly Im a scotch drinker. But the only true way to tell is to go out and buy a small botle of each and try them both. But if your going to buy scotch to drink straight, either Johnnie black (mostly because its reletively inexpensive) or be a big spender and go with the gold label. Red label is meant for mixing.

I love both, and I usually drink them with ice. But occasionally, I drink them straight, and I most certainly prefer Tennessee whisky to Scotch if I don't have ice.

Depends on personal taste. For me I want Tennessee sipping whiskey. Most Scots would tell you they want their "whisky"

Scotch is called Whisky (they drop the "e")
