Does anyone know what kind of dog is the best to sniff out truffles?

If you know what a truffle is, you probably already knew that pigs do the best job and you asked about a dog because you don't wish to care for a pig....Me neither. I would suggest using one of the hounds. They have been bread for their superior sense of smell and come in several shapes and sizes. Be fore warned, most hounds are very vocal dogs and are fond of baying, especially when disturbed from the naps they are even more fond of. Not that you need a pedigree to get the job done, I would suggest that you look on the AKC website to discover the best blood hound for you. Look at the following breeds in particular; Black and Tan Coon hounds, Blue Ticks, Blood Hounds, Bassets and Beagles.

Yes, pigs are usually used to find truffles, BUT!! They end up usually eating them! So, truffle farmers have lately been using dogs, since they don't consume the treasures. Go for breeds that have an acute sense of smell, hounds, for example.

No special breed. They used to us pigs for truffling but now they have found that dogs are better because they are easier to control.

id guess that bloodhounds would be a good dog, only because they are good at sniffing other things

but ive heard pigs are the best, except they have a tendency to also eat the truffles they find.. thats sticking it to the man lol
