1st get your pan really really hot - of course by leaving it on high for a couple minutes to sear the steak on both sides then turn the heat down right around medium or so let cook til desired taste is met

High ... Almost to where your skillet starts to smoke throw the steak on, cook till seared on both sides . Turn off heat and let it set . The Cast iron holds the heat and cooks the inside without burning it . Makes for a Perfect steak every time .If your a well done person you may want to throw a lid on it once its seared on both sides, this way the steam will cook it from the inside out .

keep the heat on med, with cast iron if you crank it to high right away you will end up with a charred and not soo good steak. because the pan will be too hot and will not lose that heat for a long while, so start on medium, you can always turn it up right?

High and do not cover it.
You want it to get darkened on the outside and pinkish on the inside unless you like it well done; then you leave it in the pan longer.

you should put the fire to medium when starting, when all mixtures or ingredients are mix up with the steak, try to switch the fire to low, in order to avoid uncooked steak but overcooked sauce.

that depends on how you want it cooked. try high if you want it rare and medium if well done.
