Toga party, tv/cartoon character themed costume party, hawaiian theme with grass skirts & hawaiian shirts...
Star Wars or Star Trek Theme, superheroes theme (where everyone has to dress up a a superhero or see who can come up with the best superhero idea & costume.
A buddy of mine celebrates Halfaween, the halfway point to halloween, just for an excuse to celebrate halloween twice a year.
You can always go to the strip club like many 18 year old boys do.

Septembers kinda close the Halloween so you could do a costume party or something like that.My friend and I are doing an under water theme because our birthdays are in April( so it rains alot.)Im not sayin fish but theres alot of blues involved in dress code.Maybe if you want a dress code then pick your favorite colors or ones that match the season.Hope this helps.

What's your first name? You could have a first name letter dress up party, say your name is Lucy..everyone dresses as something beginning with L!
E.g Little Bo Peep
Little Red Riding Hood
Ladybird
Or if your name begins with P..
Pic n Mix
Princess
Peacock
Pixie
Power Ranger
Punk
Popeye
Pirate
etc....
People will have fun trying to make the most inventive costumes!!
You could have a boat party where the boat stops somewhere for an hour with good clubs..so you can get your legal drinks in!!

A Hawaiian Party!
I attended this kind of 18th bday party and it was such a blast. We were given this fun yellow-green, orange, pink invitation card which told us to dress in bikini tops with grass skirts (for the girls), and a festive shirt with a fun hawaiian motif and shorts (for guys). They served fresh tropical fruits there and were hula dancers who taught everyone attending the party the hula before the party actually started.
We served punches in 12 tropical flavors and had seafoods, the usual meats but decorated as festive as possible.
You should try it. It's sort of more relaxed compared to stuffy parties and it's interactive and it makes the guests have fun!

Forget the party, take the money and go on a trip....see something nice, do great things, have wonderful memories. I turned 18 at Miami Beach long way from my native New York State. Those memories last longer than a cake and friends the disappear over time.

This might be a little Corny but I think an Egyptian party would be interesting. An Egyptian theme would probably be fun. If you dont like this idea you could always do Mardigras.

I would go with an 80's party. All the girls in off shoulder sweatshirt, bangles, neon, bighair. The guys dressing like Boy George, Wham, etc. You could play music from that era and move up to more modern stuff.

Go Toga...loads of fun...serve gyros, Greek salad, grapes, baklava, for a Greek Toga party...or go Roman Toga...serve pizza, (with light sauce so spills won't stain toga), cheese bread, ceasar salad, tiramisu, and italian shaved ice.
