I feel like a lot of us here get all high-and-mighty when answering these questions - and very 'accusational'. Can't we just answer the question without rubbing stuff in others' faces?

...because in the UK nearly every store uses plastic carrier bags and in American movies and TV shows i have mostly seen them using brown paper bags. Also, Plastic carrier bags seem to be more convenient as they are stronger, water proof and have handles you can hold. Why don't America use the plastic ones? Is it an environmental issue?

When I try to sleep, I can hear a distant humming noise. Some nights its bad enough for me to wear ear plugs. I have tried investigating the source but cant find any nearby source. I suspect its from aircon/transformer somewhere. Strangely, I can hear the same hum when staying several miles away. I can also hear it outside sometimes. Some people can also hear, some cant most arent disturbed by it. Occasionally it goes away which is bliss. What is this hum and whats causing it? Its definetley not in my ears or head!

I try to do a lot of things right, but some of my shortcomings include a) taking 15-minute showers and b) driving around in my (fuel-efficient!) car just to get my baby to sleep. I hope to change both of these habits from now on.

What are your shortcomings?

I've noticed that some brands of water are offering new environmentally friendly designs. Poland Springs, Deer Park, etc. How are these new designs any different than the old water bottle?

Has anybody else noticed birds out of their natural habitat?
Right after Katrina, we started seeing fish crows in our area in SW Missouri. They had never been here before, and they are still here. They compete with our native crows for food and in some cases, drive them away. They are a little smaller than the crow, and have a croak like a rusty hinge. We didn't know what they were until someone from Louisiana pointed them out and said they didn't know that they came that far north.
Has anyone else noticed strange birds moving into your area?
