It's just a survey for my science project.
Are newspapers a waste of papers? Please give details to support your answer.

If you want to read news, would you read the newspaper or online? Why?

I just want a comparison between newspaper and technologies. Which would benefit you better?

It is certainly outdated, ad a waste of paper in terms of circulation being read, and the amount of people that are using the Internet as their news source.

However, I still see people reading it wherever I go, so I think until handhelds (Blackberry's, etc.), catch on with the majority of the population, the traditional newspaper still has a few more years of life in it.

No, of course not. People still use the information that newspapers have to offer. For them this is not a waste. They pay for delivery because it's important to them.

Advertisers also use the newspapers to inform the public about their produce. They don't consider their actions to be wasteful.

You may not use the newspaper, the papers are now less important than they were some time ago, but clearly they are not a waste.

Well i don't consider it a waste, simply because they do recycle alot of paper and millions still get the paper. Now if you get the paper, and don't read it, then I would say you are. Personally, I get most my news from Online and TV,so I'm not a subscriber. The newspaper sales are diplininishing and I'm sure in the near future we won't be needing the paper. I always thought a good paper to right would be the waste and danger that "bottled water" does for this planet, look into it and you'll see what I mean, I don't know where to start.

I like reading the newspaper as it was intended to be: in paper. Even though we live in a technological world, we still use energy by turning on our computer. We may create waste with newspaper, but newspaper can be recycled. And you can reuse them over and over. You can't reuse the energy you consume on a computer.

Yes newspapers waste paper. most people only read a specific section or mabey even one article.

I read online, its faster(more up to the minute) and i can read when i want to. Also news articles online often have comments or other links to get more info, making it more interactive.

Good question

For years I have gotten my news from tv and computer. There really is no excuse for using the unthinkable amounts of paper needed to perpetuate the newspaper anymore.
