why try to stop it if it will only bring global cooling that much faster? cooler temperatures would be nice!

Generally, the temperature increase due to a doubling of CO2 (280 ppm to 560 ppm) should result in a global average temperature increase of about 1.5 degrees C.

Most of the predictions for future warming lie in the 3 to 11 degree C range, although a few people predict that we could have uncontrolled warming.

Given this difference between CO2 forcing and predicted temperature increases, there is an implication that there is some sort of positive feedback mechanism.

Is it reasonable to assume that there is a positive feedback mechanism at work? Especially in light of the fact that almost all natural systems exhibit negative feedback mechanisms (broad generalization) that tend to dampen the effects of perturbations to a system.

I realize that H2O is often cited as the mechanism, but there is a high degree of uncertainty due to the fact that water vapor can be a driver of cooling AND warming.

Is there historical precedence for assuming that these positive feedbacks exist?

I'm looking for a recent direct quote or statement that either accepts or denies the notion. If you don't know of one, please don't reply.

You know like, passing laws about car maufactureres only making eco friendly cars
building of new properties all being energy efficient - own solar panels etc . . . .

I just don't feel like they are doing enough or setting a good enough example.

There are more and more recent environmental phenomenon including hurricanes, flooding, tornadoes, droughts, record breaking heat waves, and yes wildfires that could be interpreted as stemming from global warming. What is your opinion on this and what facts do you have to support your view?

A small temperature increase will likely increase agricultural yields in North America a cause droughts in the Middle East and North Africa. Surely the policy makers must know that it is cheaper to drive a SUV in Chicago than to drive an M1 Abrams in Baghdad or Tehran.

Did you know that the worst decade on record in the U.S. as far as temperature and drought was the 30's? these summers are no hotter than before. the hottest summer 1988 was followed 4 years later by the coolest summer 1992. Don't believe the hype.

Believers of global warming theory explain the lag something like this. Some event caused temperatures to start rising or falling for the first eight hundred years. CO2 levels start to rise or fall, effecting temperatures for the remaining 4 000 years. Is this a theory or is it scientifically proved? What scientific evidence exists to support this theory? How can one be sure that the event that caused the temperature change is not the factor for the remaining 4000 years as well with co2 levels playing a small or insignificant factor in the increase? Do you think it is misleading when Al Gore says in his film that the ice core samples are proof positive that co2 levels effect temperatures.

Due to global warming, the arctic ice is melting to the point that the elusive Northwest Passage is now open for shipping commerce.

Without global warming, this WOULDN'T EVEN BE POSSIBLE!!!!

I can't wait to hear the response of the global warming alarmists. This is a benefit that even THEY can't dispute.

If Glaciers are melting, and disappearing, and North Pole Sea ice has melted, what part of the earth is getting colder? The average temperture of the earth has only risen a minisule amount (couple degrees) in the last 100 years? How can the ice melt, but the average overall temperature stay relatively the same?

There are so many different theories to why the planet is warming, all you have to do is choose one. How can you be wrong?

If you feel more comfortable following others, you believe CO2 created by man is the problem. There's certainly enough material that will support what you believe.

Maybe you wish to believe that Cosmic Rays are the cause. You can find proof to back up you position so you know you're right as well.

Think it's sunspots? There's a couple of Russian Scientist who are putting $10,000 dollars of their own money down for you to prove them wrong. Piece of cake, man is at fault, right? Any takers? I doubt it. Safety in numbers, not actions.

There's as many theories as scientist. Which one is right? To bad no one will provide proof.

They're acting like they care, but they're only solution is "raise taxes", impose "green taxes" and I really don't see how this helps! Surely improving public transport would be much more effective than just sucking our money through tax tax tax and more tax! And where's that money going anyway? Its not like we can buy "The End to Global Warming" by throwing money at it.

I'm noticing a pattern recently.

Tomcat reads this article:

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/14944138

And the only thing he gets from it is "The oceans have been cooling now for about four years." Then william8_5 selects this as the "best answer".

Jello is told that the average global temperature was low in 1934

http://www.cru.uea.ac.uk/cru/info/warming/

But continues to select 3 cities as examples to "prove" that 1934 was the hottest year in Earth's history. Coincidentally, he got all 7 best votes for a similarly inaccurate answer:

http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Apl.l5NzgTxQL90gtR0QifYjzKIX?qid=20070815062151AAQToiO

There are many more such examples, including here:

Is it a coincidence that AGW doubters have selective reading skills?
