Yes - Every year there's some crisis that we need to save humanity from.
It will pass and people won't even miss hearing it, as there will be a new crisis that mankind needs saving from.
If the problem were a real crisis, more of these "scientist" would be making hansom profits developing equipment to reduce pollution or new engines for cars.

That's a good question and a lot depends on where a person gets their information from.
Some sections of the media are guilty of overdramatising and senstaionalising certain aspects of global warming. Conversely, other media play down the effects of global warming, the reality comes somewhere between the two.
For reliable info regarding global warming it's perhaps best to ignore much of the media and obtain info from source. Bear in mind that some scientific reports, such as those from the IPCC, have been waterered down at the behest of the Bush Administration. The next report, due out in Novermber, will tell us the effects of global warming are more serious than previously published.

Depends on what you mean by "hyped".
Do I think that there is too much coverage and education about the topic, No.
Do I think that the way in which America is hearing about the issue is alot of media silliness, yes.
Do I think the way that America hears about almost any issue anymore is alot of media silliness, Yes.
Somewhere along the line, science and knowledge and rationality gave way to celebrity worship, pop cultural icons, and teen culture. So now we have to "sell" the ideas of environmentalism, and if they aren't easy and simple enough to put on a tee shirt or have some Hollywood A lister tell us about, then the information just doesn't get to the people.
Environmentalism is more than Al Gore, the Toyota Prius, and Compact Fluorescent light bulbs. Sadly, often, this is all a majority of people see.

Yes and no. What I think of as "hype" is the oversimplication of the issue and the reguritation of facts that are taken out of context. So yes, I think the topic is "over-hyped." What I'd like to see are more thorough examinations of the subject presented to the public in an accessible way.
Don't know where you live, but attend a symposium like the one coming up in California and you'll get some real facts to chew on instead of the hype.

no. if you do the math for current levels of co2 even if we increased our carbon output levels by only .1 ppm/25 years over the last 250 years we are between 84 and 92% responsible. also, if global average temperature rises between 1 degree even in that amount of time it could create massive extinctions.

No.
We face serious coastal flooding and damage to agriculture.
Rich countries can cope, but the expense of dealing with this will send the world into an economic depression. The 1930s will look like good times.
Poor countries already struggling to feed themselves won't be able to cope. Significant numbers of people will die of starvation.
Hundreds of scientists have analyzed this and have a good idea of what we could be in for.

World leaders of all political stripes are taking this very seriously.

Corporate leaders, too.

You have a choice. Believe well informed scientists, world leaders, and corporate executives who have clear scientific data (this is a nice picture, from the Source below)
http://www.globalwarmingart.com/wiki/Image:Climate_Change_Attribution.png
or believe a handful of politically motivated "skeptics" such as the ones posting above. Who are getting their information from places like an ex-tobacco lobbyist, a science fiction writer, a Senator from an oil state, and various right wing talk show hosts. Their arguments are that this is a hoax, some sort of bizarre and huge conspiracy. Who would you bet is correct?
And do you think these guys would be part of a conspiracy?

It's a no brainer for me. But it's your call.

No, it's really happening. People need to hype it up so that everyone knows about it and what they can do to help.

Is it ever
I don't deny climate change it has gone on a long time back and forth warming cooling warming.
But the fact that a lot of us question how much of it is man caused makes us ( traitors ) is one good reason to see why it's over hyped. Why would we be called traitors unless we are standing in the way of some one or some group holding a lot of power.

No. I think it needs to be more in the media than what some dumb celebrity is doing. It's more worthwhile than starting wars in countries that we didn't need to start wars in. Global warming is an issue that affects all of us, and we all need to be educated on the subject so we can do something about it. This planet is the only home we have, what are we going to do when we can't live on it anymore? We need to take care of the Earth and quit destroying it.
