I say that if you think it's hype or fake, come to California and spend a day walking out on our streets with only a cup of water. Then tell me it's nonexistent.

Ever since "An Inconvenient Truth," Al Gore has been the darling of environmentalists, but that movie hardly endeared him to the animal rights folks. According to them, the most inconvenient truth of all is that raising animals for meat contributes more to global warming than all the sport utility vehicles combined.

In late November, the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization issued a report stating that the livestock business generates more greenhouse gas emissions than all forms of transportation combined.

On its Web page and in its literature, the Humane Society has also been highlighting other scientific studies -- notably, one that recently came out of the University of Chicago -- that, in essence, show that "switching to a plant-based diet does more to curb global warming than switching from an S.U.V. to a Camry," said Paul Shapiro, senior director of the factory farming campaign for the Humane Society.

How can people say that ther are "____ thousands of deaths each year" due to global warming? It is a "butterfly effect" idea to say things like that.

"global warming will increase the temperature, which leads to drought, which leads to crop destruction, which leads to famine, which leads to disease, ..........." and so on. things are NEVER that cut and dry. There are thousands of other factors.

Hurricanes getting stronger? Try looking back in history. there have been multitudes of category 5 hurricanes. This is the first year in a long time that the area i live in has NOT experienced a drought.

If global warming is still debatable, how can people make statements that go that far in depth.

If scientists continually alter their predictions due to "unforeseen" factors, then why are they even making predictions in the first place.

I think the last article i saw said that the weather effects wont be felt for another 9 years due to "unforeseen events".

Many who believe in climate change believe companies are suppressing information and technology to make more money doing business as usual. Many who don't believe in climate change think ecologists are just trying to steal their money and redistribute it to others.

50 years ago they were predicting an Ice Age..that never happened. We have hot days and cold days that set records. I think it's bull. But I do think we have a responsibility to clean up our planet and keep it from getting worse.

Ok so global warming is happening. But most of it is a natural cycle and then humans are contributing to a small portion of it. So wouldnt it make sence to pollute the earth more to bring about an ice age so it wouldnt be so hot anymore.?

Can something be done now, other than hoping that people will stop burning forests, less vehicles, homes and factories eject harmful gases into the atmosphere, etc?

When global warming occured in the twenties and thirties it had nothing to do with CO2. What is different about today? The only difference I see is that you are measuring CO2 on the worlds largest active volcanoe.

I understand early earth atmosphere had lot of CO2 and less oxygen. Later on the Stromatolites increased the concentration of oxygen. My question is basically this:

1. Had we reached an equilibrium prior to industrial revolution in terms of proportion of CO2 and other gases in atmosphere?
2. Due to current state of affairs is this equilibrium going to shift in either direction even if we stop producing more CO2?
3. What can be the effect of such a shift?

Thanks,
Sandeep
