I find it frustrating that people deny that global wariming is real.
With the ice caps melting and the depleting ozone layer i can't see that it isn't taking place.
What do you think?

Can animals really contribute to man made global warming?
Or is this just a case where "facts" can mean anything as long as you can get them to support your position and beliefs?

Would you buy a MacDonald’s Big Mac to help fight global warming?

Apparently this is a big hit in Japan as a solution for so-called global warming.

So it would appear that livestock account for roughly 18% of anthropogenic greenhouse gas emissions

Several groups have used this data to suggest that all environmentalists should become vegetarians. While this is certainly a good solution in theory, it strikes me that another possible solution would be to simply reduce beef consumption by increasing consumption of other meats such as pork and chicken.

These animals aren't ruminant, don't require large pastures, produce less waste, etc. etc. Granted there are other issues with raising these animals (mostly due to factory farming), but at least it would solve much of the greenhouse gas emission problem.

Does it strike anyone else that much of this problem could be solved by reducing beef consumption rather than the consumption of all meat?

see: http://newsbusters.org/blogs/p-j-gladnick/2007/09/04/british-yachtsman-who-counted-global-warming-cross-arctic-now-trapped-

In one of the most hilarious cases of being tripped up by dubious scientific hype, British yachtsman Adrian Flanagan attempted to be the first to sail across the arctic north of Russia. He based his hope on the fact that he believed in the Global Warming propaganda that the arctic is rapidly losing its ice thus making his trip possible. One little problem. Cold cruel reality has crushed the Global Warming hype and now Flanagan's boat is trapped by ice in the arctic. To add to the irony, Flanagan who seems to be destined to go down in history as Wrong Way Flanagan, is now pleading with Russian authorities to provide him with the services of a nuclear powered icebreaker to get him out of his embarrassing situation.

As has been proven by looking at ice core samples CO2 went up after the temperature rose. Surely if it CO2 was the contributing factor to global warming then it would have risen before the temperatures went up. If not why did it only go up afterwards.

by the way it is not denied by scientists that the CO2 went up after rather than before, in case anyone starts berating me about it.

"International Rivers Network executive director Patrick McCully today told Brisbane's Riversymposium rotting vegetation and fish found in dams produced surprising amounts of methane - 25 times stronger than carbon dioxide."

"Often it's accepted that hydropower is a climate friendly technology but in fact probably all reservoirs around the world emit greenhouse gases and some of them, especially some of the ones in the tropics, emit very high quantities of greenhouse gases even comparable to, in some cases even much worse than, fossil fuels like coal and gas," Mr McCully said.

This is the first time two Atlantic hurricanes have ever made landfall at Category 5 strength in the same season - ever.
There have only been 3 previous seasons with two category 5s guess what 2003 was one of them

The season is s'posed to start 1june - Subtropical Storm Andrea formed on May 9, staring the season 3 weeks early.

The season is s'posed to end 30Nov - can I have guestimate bets for storms in Dec and Jan - give me a probability and quantity?

Just to let you know
Tropical Storm Zeta from the 2005 season, continued through early January, only the second time on record that had happened. Zeta was the longest-lived January tropical cyclone in Atlantic basin history.
and in the 2003 season -Tropical Storm Ana was the first Atlantic tropical storm on record to form in April. and Tropical Storms Odette and Peter, made 2003 the first recorded time two Atlantic tropical storms formed in December.

I care about climate change because of the effects rising sea levels will have on the pacific islands. I'm a Samoan and for many of us Pacific islanders rising sea levels will be devastating and in some cases wipe out whole cultures. Who on earth are you? This new campaign is again just another ambulance at the bottom of the cliff I'm sorry to tell you. Bringing together who? All you socialite middle class guilt mongers who are driven by your own personal guilt rather then actually wanting to solve the issue. Go back to your lattes, shopping malls and come back when you're ready to do something! You should start by looking after your own ethnic people before saving the world! What am I doing. We cycle and walk everywhere and only use the vehicle (1 vehicle) as a last resort. We recycle everything we can, we grow our own veges and we don't shop at or support multinational franchises! What the heck is a website going to do to stop the water from destroying my mothers village?

or that we have no impact on global systems.

I hear all the time from those who deny global warming and global climate changes that humans are tiny players in the biosphere and we are arrogant for thinking that what we do could possibly affect the entire planets functioning.

But isn't it equally arrogant to think that we can exist with impugnity, consume all we want, dump toxins into the air and the water, and reproduce limitlessly and not eventually make an impact on the biologial system in which we live?

I read a little while back that there is warming on all the other planets, like Mars, Jupiter, etc, similar to the warming on Earth. This was an article written by and supported by a promnent scientist.
Then later I read that this warming is a lie. The data shows that there is no warming on the other planets.
Then I read somewhere else that there is warming.

SOMEONE IS LYING. WHAT IS THE TRUTH??

Will deniers continue to deny it was ever a problem to begin with?........just like the ozone hole - they still claim ozone depletion was a "natural cycle".

1. if there wasn't global warming we would still have a problem, global cooling. so instead of getting record high temperatures...we'll be getting record low temperatures. and some sports and other activities will not be able to play.
2. you cannot prevent global warming. what mother nature wants is what she will do.
3.yes, people are part of the problem, but mother nature is way ahead of us.global warming started way back in the 1800's
4. yes, people can slow down global warming to get into the ice age if we use smaller cars and not the big SUV's
5. politicians are scaring and alerting people , they are also making billions of dollars doing that.
6. the rich and famous people are using more energy and electricity(jets, limos, big house=more electricity used) than middle and lower class people....
7. give your opinions ^.^ and not stupid ones

According to the World Resources Institute, livestock and manure only account for 5.1% of worldwide anthropogenic greenhouse gas emissions.

http://cait.wri.org/figures.php?page=World-FlowChart&view=100

But according to the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization, when land use is taken into account, livestock accounts for 9% of our CO2 emissions, 65% of nitrous oxide, 37% of methane, and thus 18% of our overall CO2 equivalent greenhouse gas emissions.

http://www.fao.org/newsroom/en/news/2006/1000448/index.html

I'm wondering why these figures are so different. Anyone know the source of the discrepancy, and which is more accurate?
