You know like, passing laws about car maufactureres only making eco friendly cars
building of new properties all being energy efficient - own solar panels etc . . . .

I just don't feel like they are doing enough or setting a good enough example.

I not only think the Government should be more concerned, we ALL should be. As is, only purchasing EV's, installing solar panels, asking peopel to recycle, writing to your elected officals, etc.

.

Asking a question like that is just a way of saying that you do not believe they are doing enough. More can ALWAYS be done no matter what you are talking about and no matter how much is already being done. The government COULD do more to reduce the 50,000 yearly traffic deaths in the U.S., by doing things like lowering the speed limit and requiring all occupants to wear a helmet for example. By the way, part of the reason cars get worse mileage today is the added weight of safety equipment like airbags and steel beams in doors. A Honda Civic today gets worse mileage than the earlier models.

Nope. Lately i haven't heard much news on the environment or laws being passed to lower energy emissions or eco friendly car buildings.

The one thing that the government needs to do that it has not done is ban the use of coal for the production of energy.

In addition to the production of greehouse gases, coal is contaminated with radioactive Uranium and Thorium. The burning of coal as an energy source produces over 2,000 tons of radioactive Uranium and Thorium as radioactive waste. That is more than is produced in nuclear power plants!(1)

Eliminating the use of coal as an energy source would go a long way to reducing pollution in the United States and reducing the production of greenhouse gases.

The best solution is to ban the use of fossil fuels for energy generation altogether. Ultimately I think that we should ban the use of fossil fuels for all energy production, not just electrical generation but also for transportation and for the heating and cooling of our homes, offices and factories.

We will need a replacement source of energy for that. In my opinion that will be electricity generated by a source that does not produce greenhouse gases.

One thing that the government should not do is micromanage the production of cars and the building of buildings and the use of solar panels.

When the government micromanages industry, without exception it creates far more problems than it solves.

The use of solar panels is a good example. Solar photovoltaics have a cost of production of electricity that is over ten times the cost of production of electricity by the use of wind energy(2)

If you ban the use of fossil fuels to procuce electricity you permit the industry to find the most efficient cost effective solution within those limitations.

If you mandate the use of solar photovoltaics you saddle the rest of us with an extremely expensive source of electricity that we cannot afford.

I recommend that we ban the use of fossil fuels and let industry find the most efficient cost effective solution, rather than try to micromanage the operations of the industry by mandating a particular level of fuel efficiency or the use of a particular method of generating electricity such as solar cells.

If you ban the use of fossil fuels first for electric power generation and ultimately for all uses of energy you will accomplish far more reductions in greenhouse gas emissions and pollution than you could ever achieve by micromanaging the automobile industry and the building industry.

The US government could be doing a ton more. It's basically doing absolutely nothing right now. Our next president will likely be a Democrat and will likely push for some steps to address the issue, but we'll almost certainly have to wait until Bush is out of office.

Sure... any gov't could...but give me a break your asking the few to foot the bill of the many! Disproportionate cost to those of us who live in first world countries. Quit asking gov't to be responsible for poor practices in the private sector. You better watch out... there are nations in the UN asking places like the UK and US and western european countries to TAX their citizens for the benifit of other nations....UHH can you say "Taxation with out representation".

You can thank the Bush administration for neglecting global warming.
G. W. Bush felt this was such an insignificant issue that he withdrew the U.S. f/ the "Clinton organized" summit that was designed to bring the world's leaders to some conclusive actions that would deal w/ this growing problem.
Imagine that ... the country that uses the most energy (by far) backing away f/ an issue as serious as this.

They try there best but there are not a lot of people in government, we are a hole nation who should be doing our bit to help with climate change. Its up to all of to save our planet, for the generations to come.

No, if the populous is concerned about climate change it's up to them to act. Passing laws to limit choice is not the answer.

I am quite certain that politicians would love to address your fears but your fears are not warranted. You so willingly give your money and freedoms to try to change something that probably has more benefits than cons. Don't you think that government could find better things to do like butting out of our lives and wallet.
