In other words, if a person or persons drive around in their electric cars, and the city they live in has a power failure, would their cars have a power failure as well?

The stratosphere has been on a long-term cooling trend since global balloon coverage became available in the 1950's.

Climatologists explain this by the increased greenhouse effect, which traps more heat at the surface, allowing less heat to escape to the stratosphere.

Since AGW skeptics don't believe increased CO2 is responsible for the warming surface, what mechanism do they propose that can warm the surface AND cool the stratosphere at the same time?

Ok, we know the earth has been around for approximately 5 billion years, and in that time has undergone both warmer and cooler periods than the present climate. Most life thrives in a warmer climate, although some species do prefer the cold. So the question becomes - what is the "ideal" temperature of the earth, and who (or what) is that ideal for?

Please support with examples. Which specie or species are you placing priority on for your "ideal," and why?

The one in my yard leaked once about 3 years ago and 'Osha' came out and cut all the limbs off my apple tree, sprayed my wooden fence down with something and removed all the grass about 20' around. Now I'm wondering if the apples from that tree might be contaminated from the ground.

According to the Department of Energy, hemp as a biomass -fuel producer requires the least specialized growing and processing procedures of all hemp products. The hydrocarbons in hemp can be processed into a wide range of biomass energy sources, from fuel pellets to liquid fuels and gas. Development of biofuels could significantly reduce our consumption of fossil fuels and nuclear power.
-Hemp fiber paper resists decomposition, and does not yellow with age when an acid-free process is used. Hemp paper more than 1,500 years old has been found. It can also be recycled more times.
-Eco-friendly hemp can replace most toxic petrochemical products. Research is being done to use hemp in manufacturing biodegradable plastic products: plant-based cellophane, recycled plastic mixed with hemp for injection-molded products, and resins made from the oil, to name just a very few examples.

Mennonite's and the Amish live with out Gas and they have plenty of food, they depend on them selves, We have a country full farmers and we buy our food and our gas from over seas. when we could depend on our selves and grow our own food and make our own bio fuel and could make enough to supply all are needs and make our country cleaner healthier and self sufficient, so why aren't we doing it?

I am leaving all my faucets running, taking cans out of the recycling bins and putting them in the trash, and hopefully draining a wetland or two.

Can't these greenies see that they are being duped?
Global Warming is just the latest vehicle to grow government, raise taxes, roll back lifestyles, and take away personal freedom.
Why are greenies so easily duped? Even if global warming is caused by man, how is government or the U.N. getting involved going to fix it and not make it worse. Think about the war of poverty, we have thrown trillions of dollars at it, and according to the Democratic platform, it's worse than ever. So throwing money at the problem isn't fixing it.

I have been looking at alternative power sources for vehicles and I am finding that air powered vehicles may be the smartest greenest way to power a vehicle. Electric requires batteries. Air power just requires an air motor or impeller that would rotate the crankshaft of an engine or else bypass that engine. Are there eny kits out there to make this transformation and to eliminate the need to burn oil in my vehicle?

Have you taken a commercial plane across just the U.S.? Then you noticed alot of empty acreage for thousands of miles.

Have you wandered Alaska, Wyoming, Montana, Oregon, Nevada, Utah? Are those states are overpopulated?

Have you hiked the desert in Nevada? If you did, you noticed desolation, just a few miles from Vegas.

Have you bike trekked across Africa? If so, you noticed you can travel for weeks and see no one.

I've done the above. I have seen firsthand that the world is NOT overpopulated.

Overpopulation is chic hype as is global warming. Get out and travel the world and see for yourself, if you can et away from your keyboard. Quit causing such ridiculous fearmongering panic.

Study the lifecycle of water, it is THE ultimate natural renewable resource.

Though Americans make up just 4 percent of the world's population, we produce 25 percent of the carbon dioxide pollution from fossil-fuel burning -- by far the largest share of any country. In fact, the United States emits more carbon dioxide than China, India and Japan, combined. Clearly America ought to take a leadership role in solving the problem. And as the world's top developer of new technologies, we are well positioned to do so -- we already have the know-how.

I think this article explains why they won a peace prize for their work on this environmental issue.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/environment/2007/nov/04/climatechange.scienceofclimatechange?gusrc=rss&feed=networkfront

"A total of 46 nations and 2.7 billion people are now at high risk of being overwhelmed by armed conflict and war because of climate change. A further 56 countries face political destabilisation, affecting another 1.2 billion individuals.

This stark warning will be outlined by the peace group International Alert in a report, A Climate of Conflict, this week. Much of Africa, Asia and South America will suffer outbreaks of war and social disruption as climate change erodes land, raises seas, melts glaciers and increases storms, it concludes. Even Europe is at risk.

'Climate change will compound the propensity for violent conflict, which in turn will leave communities poorer and less able to cope with the consequences of climate change'"

Any thoughts?
