Many dont need scientists to tell them.
In Holland they take raising the dykes very seriously

in China millions of people are running from dust storms,Northern China is becoming a desert.

In Tabasco in Mexico more than a million people ,are homeless their livestock drowned their crops flooded ,and the water is up to their roofs because of super evaporation of the forests ,
The same is about to happen in Chiapas.

150.000 people on average die due to global warming in one way or another ,this is expected to double soon

i agree with what the first answerer said and many that followed

I beleive the opposite, if you deny global warming then you are "falling" for what coorporations, and (in the case of the US) other political leaders tell you when it does not fit their agenda.

For every one dollar given to Al Gore in the 2000 presidential election, the old fuels clubs gave GWB 14... and in the first 60 days into his presidency he reversed his "green" stance began lowering pollution standards for the US. And put polluters in charge of the EPA.

Why is it not common knowledge that here in the US there are over 435 cases of repression/maniupulation of credible scientific data brought before the oversight commitee?

I'm proud of Europes fierce stance on global warming/climate change even when the US clearly tries to circumvent and even hold back global efforts to make positive changes.

Most people in Western countries believe everything they see on TV.

I think people who live in less democratic countries in Asia, Africa and Eastern Europe expect the authorities to lie to them so the tend to be sceptical of anything they see on any media.

I'm of the opinion that the Western media are in business to making money - they run the stories that people watch and not the stories that make people change the channel. Government owned media like the BBC arn't motivated by profit because they don't make any, but they have a long history of championing environmental causes.

First off: it you want credibility, spell "anti" correctly. Second, why would you want to hitch your wagon to a losing cause? U.S. citizens widely acknowledge human-induced climate change, government agencies have finally awoken out of their slumber, and IF YOU ARE WRONG -- then you will have helped slow down the process that can and will lead to positive change to slow or even reverse the process.

Not sure why you'd want that burdon. Not sure why you chose to go to the dark side, rather than embrace what is one of the most serious issues mankind has ever known. Yeah, the facts are disturbing. We've got our work cut out for us. But my husband and I brought 2 children into the world, and now there's a grandson, and I am going to be working and working hard to disseminate good information so the open-minded, the educated, can become better informed.

Please reconsider your mission here. Considering what's at stake that seems like the least you can do. Or at least check out the link for the European Commission, which should answer the question you posed well enough.

In other countries, they're lucky enough not to be dittoheads. The US lack of belief in global warming is exceeded only by Egypt. Certainly an educational system we all aspire to.

It's interesting to note that there is not a single nation on earth where the skeptics have convinced a majority of the population.

your question makes no sense since the union of concerned scientists in composed of not just scientists from this country but many of the other countries you refer to and with more checking you will find that it is you who is believing what people tell you and not finding out for yourself that the problem is real.
Certainly the earth has gone through warming and cooling periods in the past but to continue to do the things we do without regard for its consequences makes as much sense as trying to put out the fire in a burning house by throwing in more matches.
Experts who have stock in Ford, GM or Chrysler will say there is no such thing as global warming but they want to sell cars without having to build cars capable to 40 mpg or better.
Experts from those areas who depend upon coal mining for their economy will say there is no such thing because they want to sell coal.
Some experts may say there is no such thing because they can then write a book based upon what someone told them or even just to make money from the sale of the book.
Certainly there have been exaggerations on both sides of the argument but the scientists from many other countries came together to arrive at the conclusion that whether the earth is heating by itself or not, we are making it worse.and if we don't take those steps to stop compounding the problems we are the ones throwing the matches in that burning building without realizing that it is our home.

Do people like you even care about the rest of the world?

***

Clansmen: "I refuse swallow lies or to make a single change, until it can be shown and proved beyond a doubt exactly how the actions of humans are causing global warming."

If your doctor told you you'd got cancer would you still refuse to make any changes until it could be proven beyond a doubt that you would die if you didn't? At what point would it be proven? If you ask me it wouldn't be fully proven before you where dead!

But it CAN be proved in experiments that greenhouse gases, like CO2, traps heat and we know that human activities are increasing these levels in the atmosphere.

They believe what the vast majority of scientists tell them.

There's a lot less controversy about this is the real world than there is on Yahoo answers:

http://www.worldpublicopinion.org/pipa/articles/home_page/412.php?lb=hmpg1&pnt=412&nid=&id=

And vastly less controversy in the scientific community than you might guess from the few skeptics talked about here:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scientific_opinion_on_climate_change
http://www.sciencemag.org/cgi/content/full/306/5702/1686

"There's a better scientific consensus on this [climate change] than on any issue I know... Global warming is almost a no-brainer at this point. You really can't find intelligent, quantitative arguments to make it go away."

In a lot of other countries the people don't enjoy our standard of living and they have to spend their time figuring out how to keep warm and they don't have time to worry about it.
